MG MGF Technical - Can disconneted instruments cause trouble?
| Hi folks, At the moment, my carīs interior is completely stripped. It has been parked for 4 weeks now and of course the battery's gone dead. Apart from some faint instrument warning lights, the relay click and alternator rattle is the only thing I hear upon turning the key. Iīll get is jump started soon. My question though. As a lot of instrument cables (clock, oil temp, SRS, heater switches,...) are disconnected, can this cause problems anyhow? I wrapped the ends up in isolating tape to prevent power drainage, but besides that, are there any other risks related? With this nice weather I just have to get the *F* out of the my garage, dash or no dash!! t.i.a., David. |

| Errm, not come across this one before. The PAS will not work because the signal comes from the instruments, but it will default to a disengauged state so will behave like a non PAS car. In england it is illegal to drive a car like this, I don't know the exact requirements but I guess that you need access to all the lights (including fogs) and a working speedo, what I don't know is weather a GPS system (Ģ150) would do as a speedo or if it requires a link to the wheels. | Shouldn't cause any problems David - except as Will's noted already, the EPAS will be inactive in 'fail-safe' mode. Oh, and you won't know how much fuel is in the tank! ;o)) |

| Not true Rob - he will know how much he aint got when it runs out:-) Ted |

| Ah, the binary fuel level indicator. Engine runs = fuel in tank. Engine stops = no fuel in tank... |

| Hi guys, Thanks for the response, hope you all enjoyed Silverstone, next year Iīll try to be there. About the instruments. I decided to plug in the instrument pack. So speedo, rpm, indicator switch pack, lights, windscreen wipers are (or at least should be) working. I taped the whole thing to the cross member bar. One problem though, the indicators are not working. I know there is a seperate electrical circuit for "alarm on/off" indicator blinking when pushing the remote key fob and "regular" indicator blinking with switch pack at the wheel when driving, as they have seperate fuses (resp. under bonnet and in-car). The first leaves the indicators working, the latter not. Now, I suspect that the warning button that launches all 4 indicators is plugged into the same "regular" circuit. As I didnīt put this back into my current "basic" *LOL* instrument configuration, it breaks the "regular" electrical circuit, hence indicator switch pack isnīt working. I donīt have the electrical layout of the *F* but I am quite sure this is the reason my indicators donīt work. This means everyone thought I was waving at them whilst I was indication direction *LOL*. Never questioned the legas aspect though. But hey, I think a lot of Belgians donīt consider these. Donīt shoot me fellow compatriots. If anyone is interested about whatīs hapening underneath the dash, I can take some pictures. However canīt get a hold of a digital camera so regular 35mmīll have to do (including scanning). cheers, David. |

Cheers, Erik (PS, kelder van Luc is af, we beginnen aan het gelijkvloers, 'k heb al een 300-tal foto's). |

| It will also be quicker-due to weight saving;-) Mike. Working on it D |

| Thanks Mike, Everything clear I hope, as can be seen from my amateuristic "paint" images ;-) Eric, Got any spare time left on wednesday or Friday this week for a quickdraw *ROFLOL* (I got 3 weeks off) I mean part-exchange/coffee-cake thing! Otherwise 2nd weekend of August? mail me on this one. And err. About that law thing, letīs assume I was talking solely in my own name! Err... in de kelder van Luc zal wel wa plaats over zijn voor onze gedemonteerde *F* attributen zeker. Die van mij geraakt stilaan vol!! Cheers, David. |
