MG MGF Technical - CD changer magazine stuck

Since I seem to be in fix-the-MGF mode, does anyone have a magic cure to a stuck CD magazine? I think that one CD has loaded and the machine has then jammed. I believe that this is the original CD changer that MGR supplied.

Alternatives, I assume are new CD changer, replacement MGR version or complete new ICE...

Chaz,

Need more info.
Please advise what you have already tried.

But in the meantime,
The CD changers are controlled by the head unit in the dash console.
There may be a reset procedure that you perform on the unit. Check this in you manual.

Try disconnecting power to the changer and plug back in. It may reset itself.

What is the model of this unit?

cheers,
Branko.

Don't forget UK and Australian Radios are a different fitment....

Check the archives, I had a similar problem with mine ( factory fitted CD changer), and i found it was a CD stuck in the changer.
After searching the archive i found a some advice on how to dismantle and clear it.
The archive is copied below, Hope this is of some help, it was for me;

I have the "factory fitted" CD autochanger in my MGF, which has worked fine until recently.
For no apparent reason the head unit now displays "CD ERROR" when I try to use the autochanger. I have disconnected and then reconnected the data lead from both the head unit and autochanger, but to no avail.
There also appears to be no power to the autochanger as the eject button is no longer illuminated?
I have contacted Phillips audio who have passed me onto VDO (B'Ham) who apparently bought out Phillips car audio last year. They have quoted me a minimum of £73.81 plus postage and packaging just to look at the autochanger.
Does anyone have any tips on what could be causing the problem, or how I could get it repaired at a sensible price!! (The Rover Radio manual is as good as useless!!)

Andy, all right how are you doing.
Right this sounds like a very common problem that i have with the F's and that is a single CD has got stuck in the unit, what you need to do is remove the unit and the brackets off the side then remove the ,i think 8 black cross headed screws then remove the top off the unit. There you will see a mass of cogs, first hold the unit up and look at the back of the unit on the right hand side and you will see a small lever at the bottom, this will release the cassette. Then you will be able to see the stuck cd,again look in about the same place and you will see a large cog ,you move this to move the cd up and down ,move it so it takes the pressure off the disc then you will be able to remove the disc, once you have done this refit and plug in it should work, let me know if it does not.

Thanks folks. Very useful archive thread. I've looked for a reset button and I've disconnected and reconnected the lead, so dismantling and moving that lever are the next tries.

So, Chaz,

Had you got the error message displayed on your head unit as per the above post "CD ERROR" or not?

Does the CD magazine come out OK or is that stuck too?
If it comes out, then leave it out , disconnect/reconnect all power to the unit and then put the magazine back in. Choose CD on the head unit and the system should scan the slots and hopefully "see" the CD in there. Which slot is it stuck in?

Branko

Branko,

Get the CD ERROR message, but the magazine is stuck. I think that a CD has loaded and jammed. Hence a dismantle job, I think.

Chaz

Chaz,
Looks like it's leading to that.

good luck.

If you open the unit up, as described in the archive quote, you'll find that twiddling one of the nylon gears moves the loading assembly up and down and another winds the cd in and out of the cassette.

Twiddle the first until the carrier is lined up with the vacant slot in the cassette, then the other to wind it in.
Moving the lever under the cassette will then eject it from the changer. Reconnecting the player and power it up and it all seems happy enough (until next time!)

It's a fag to do but at least it gets everything released without breaking any bits.
