MG MGF Technical - China built TF question....

Has anyone yet had head gasket failure with a China built MG TF...?

I've not heard of any yet and wonder what they have done to overcome the problem...

I think that the head gasket issue was sorted out before the Chinese were involved
Brian Highe

Can you purchase China build MG TF's in Australia? If so, who from.....
Sue Wilson

TF production has ceased and as far as I am aware they were only available on the UK market.
My TF135 was purchased August 2009, I have covered just over 27,000 miles and with my proposed trip to Switzerland shortly I will be booking in for the second ' annual service ' around the end of April !
Two safety recall checks, one stuck heater blower switch and a reluctant oil temperature gauge being the only issues apart from a set of tyres and a massive fuel bill !
Art Jacks

David looked at bringing in a 'new' MG TF from China but hit lots of Australian 'brick walls' so abandoned the idea.

"I think that the head gasket issue was sorted out before the Chinese were involved" - HOW...?

What’s changed is mostly welcome. The non-VVC 1.8-litre engine, known as the K-series under Rover but now referred to as the N-series, is no more powerful than before – it develops 134bhp – but it does benefit from a new head gasket design and has a new exhaust system to go with it.

So does anybody know what the new head gasket design is?
Sue Wilson

Good question Mark.
Yep Brian how and by who was it sorted? Did someone get rid of the not so stretchy bolts?
Robert (Bob) Midget Turbo

I believe the engineering of the N series was done by Ricardo engineeirng in the UK
David Karle

David,

I'll ask a mate that works at Ricardo and see if he knows anyone with the information. Hopefully he won't have to kill me if he tells me.
David Billington

Thanks David... I'd be very interested to know what more can be done..

I asked my mate and unfortunately he doesn't have any information. He works at the Shoreham branch and doesn't think the work was done there, more likely at the branch in the midlands and the chap most likely to have done the work or know is working out in Asia at the moment. If I find anything more out I'll post back.
