MG MGF Technical - Clutch gone anything else I need to change

My wife drove the car and on the way to work it was as if the clutch pedal was catching. Got to work The car made a starnge noise as she reversed and there is a burning smell. RAC Called, said it is the clutch but can be driven. I drove the car home 3 miles and the clutch is making a deep noise and it does smell.

Anyway. I will change the clutch this weekend. Is there anything else apart from the complete clutch inc bearing that I should do while the gearbox is off the car. 1997 MGF 1.8i non VVC

I don't think so.
Even the clutch release should attract some attention cause of the know rust problems between shaft and lever.

Will you do the "Branko" way ?

Dieter

As Dieter mentions, a common problem is the shaft seizes in the casing causing clutch slip and failure.
You may consider fitting a Mike Satur lubricated shaft.

Brian,

also check if the flywheel needs machining... especially if the friction plate has worn down to the riverts or if the clutch has become overheated, which could warp/score the plate.

Dieter,
If next time I replace my clutch, I would get myself access to a Hydragas pump and get to the clutch by dropping the whole subframe. My First method was my attenpt to do it all myself. Quite a job and not for the faint hearted.

Cheers,

Brown and Gammons maybe????

Ref the link on MGF clutch replacement without lowering the engine and just moving back the gear box. Branko method. Can you get the actuating arm off with the gearbox in that position
