MG MGF Technical - Compliance washer question

I took the F to the garage to have compliance washers fitted to improve the throttle steer.

Upon inspection the man (a reliable chap quite well known to me) said that what is already there is in good order. On each side of the metal bit are thick rubbery bits where the compliance washers would go. He showed them to me.

They appear in good order, but don't look anything like the assemby on Dieters site which doesn't seem to have any rubber bits (or very thin ones). Are these thick rubbery bits ok? Why have I got them, and should I still use compliance washers instead of them?

Hi Chris,

I wonder what that will get now

.. like at the image with the green coloured ???

Hello Dieter,

No they're not green, and much much thicker than those green bits! Probably about 4x thicker at least!

(danke fuer die Deutsche sprache anleitung, sehr nuzlich!)
Chris Heinrich Perkins

4 times thicker could be PU like bushes only.
Either blue coloured or amber ??

Dieter

They may have been blue, possibly very dark dirty blue, they certainly weren't that bright. But they were about that thick and could well have been polyeurethane.

What do you think, would it be better to swap them for the very hard compliance washers? I do get quite bad throttle steer on sharp accelleration.

The black bush in the lower left of your picture did have a little play aparently, could that be the cause...It didn't seem too bad to me.

The small bush at the subframe ??

Of course it's important.
Chris,
it's difficult to analyse from distance though.

You have PU bushes. So no need to replace them with anything else, unless they are broken or worn.

The problem may be:
What is worn.
Dieter

The bush circled had some play:

What's that one called? (In English first!)

And can I get a pair somewhere in Germany?

Thanks Dieter

(P.S are you somewhere on the road between Chemnitz and Calais? I'm driving across in early June)

What makes these washers so special? is it not possible to purchase common garden washers of the right size and thickness?

david

David,
I'm sure it would be, they are nothing more high tec than PVC spacers which prevent the bushes deforming by occupying the space into which they would deform. I could see two thicknesses of old credit card material stuck together with contact adhesive doing an identical job except they would crack over time and flexing. 4 x 2 and baler twine will not suffice in this instance! :o)

And a slot cut into the garden/toilet/anysource spacer will enable mounting without removal of the tie bar. Just slot it in from above after slackening the nut and making enough space for fitting at each end.
