MG MGF Technical - coolant sensor

my r reg mgf starts from cold ok but when warmed up sometimes will not start also my fan seems to start alot early than normal is this a fault on my coolant sensor and if so where can i buy one

Wayne - which fan is comming on? Usually it is impossible to hear the rad fan unless standing in front of the car. The fan that's audible from the driver's seat is the engine bay fan - and its operation has nothing to do with coolant temperature or starting issues.

When you can't start the car from hot, what happens? Does the starter struggle to turn the engine (or pauses before the engine turns and then catches)? If so, then I suspect that this is the first signs that the battery charge level is low - and usually indicates that the battery is on its way out...

My recently acquired r reg MGF has similar symptoms often results in complete flooding when attempting warm starting. Tried checking diagnostic codes with a generic reader with no joy, but having cleaned many connectors, including brown coolant sensor, problem seems to have gone - still not confident since didnt really find anything.

its the rad fan i was outside of the car a few mins after starting up and it came on
ive changed the brown coolant sensor but its still the same
start from hot with no trouble and from cold with no trouble just when its warm or been cooling down but left long enough it start ok so short trips it wont start makes the right noises but wont fire over

sound like brown sensor problems, as Paul accurately describes (perhaps without knowing!) often the problem comes down to a dirty brown sensor cable which causes the ECU to think the temps are higher than they are, unless the sensor or wiring has totaly failed when the ECU assumes it is as cold as possible for fueling and as hot as possible for the fan (leading to hot start problems)

its the rad fan i was outside the car for a few mins and it came on just after starting from cold
ive change the brown coolant sensor but its still the same
starting the car from hot is fine and from cold but when its warm or cooled down abit it just wont fire its turnig over like normal but not fireing
