MG MGF Technical - crazy indicator

when i put the indicator on to turn right it ticks really fast. But doesn't happen when i put the hazard lights on.The front right indicator is not working i have changed the bulb twice but it is still not working. Is this related? I had the engine cover off yesterday could i have knocked a wire or something??? please help

If the indicator goes fast, something is wrong with the resistance of the whole indicator mechanism. So, yes, you problem is related to the not working bulb. Maybe some problem with the wiring, a shortage somewhere?

thanks do you know if any of the wires that run along the top of the engine bay (on both sides) are anything to do with the indicator system? i don't really know where to start looking!

Thanks again

Have you got access to another F (friend, neighbour etc) so you can try swapping the indicator relay. Haven't got wiring diags at work so not sure if hazards have a separate relay. Does bulb work with hazards?
John Ponting

The hazard relay is the same, the wiring tees off to all LHS and all RHS bulbs from the same post, so if one bulb on one side is missing then the relay is fine.

and the wiring for the front indicator will not go thru the engine bay, so I doubt you knock anything there.

thanks for the replys, the front indicator doesn't work with the hazards either same when i lock it. But the bulb is fine have tried a few could water have got in it or something has broken?
NJ Rawlings

Most probable is that the wire that feed its has fatigued.

I would assume that the wire is spliced in the loom between the side and front indicator, so the fault would have to be in the wire from the splice to the lamp, which should be only about 2 metres in total.

But before you do that, check the volts at the dead lamp with the rest flashing - use the battery as ground - if you see volts on the bulb holder then you have an eart fault, trace the black wire rather than the green with a stripe wire (colours guessed)
