MG MGF Technical - Diag Socket in engine bay?

Is there a 2 pin diag socket in the engine bay? found another unused connector in the loom, one wire is black and pink the other is grey and white.

Looks unused but was in the engine bay! the pink wire goes back to a 3 way splice, the grey wire goes across to the engine via the green connector.

Although I have the wiring diagrams I seem to need the Reference Library Booklet to deciper some of the descriptions, mainly the colours, anyone have an electronic copy of this?

Cheers

I have not got my MGR schematics with me but sounds like the connector for a Cat temp sensor. I fitted a sensor to my UK reg MGF which was only ever officially fitted to Japanese versions using the connector which is situated in the engine bay under the the Engine ECU.
Julian

For sure no diagnostic socket.
Pink us almost the delayed power line from the ECU for several actuators (likewise the purge valve)

Anyway, diagrams for the MGF are (as usual) here
http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/index.htm
TF is quite similar.

And almost everything else you need

Mmm, could be for a CAT sensor, best guess is thats it was under or in the area of the header tank, we labled everything as we took the loom out but this caught us out.

It has a sensor type plug on it

Thanks for the link on the Diagrams but what I need is a legend that tells me what all the colour codes are, I have one of the CD manuals but it refer's to the Library reference for all the colour codes etc.

Thanks

see link on the top left ....
>>> (Colorcode) <<<<<< ;) (apology for the typo)

What age, or VIN is your car ?
Dieter

Got it, thanks, should stand a chance now

It was a 2002 MGTF 160, I am installing the Loom as well as all the instruments, Engine, lots of other bits into another chassis.
Should get the overall weight down to 600 kgs so should be quite rapid.

I have quite a lot of spares left over, I have stuck them on ebay http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZchronozone.co.ukQQhtZ-1

Ok after lots of head scratching still cant seem to workout what this connector does.

It does not seem to be on the wiring diagrams, but I am sure it is, just our crap eyesite!! the KB pink Black wire goes abck to the 3 way splice, then into the ECU plug loom but not the connector? the grey wire goes accros to the engine on the green connector.

Still reckon it was in the location of the header tank area, as it was in the loom that goes up to the little vac chamber for the exhaust flap actuator onthe o/s innser wing. Its not the one that fits on it although it looks similar.

I would just ignore it but the connector face looks clean and the outer loom dirty, indicating it was plugged in to something.
We still have the chopped up body but no clues there.

Do they really leave connectors like this lying around in the engine bay, its just 2 wires wrapped for about 30 cm so could have gone in quite a few areas.

Can I have it off you please for the cost of postage + a bit for the effort of putting it in an envelope? Same address as you sent the window ECU (Bath BA1 5TE)

Er, no
Not until someone can tell me what it is, where it goes to on a wiring diagram, some explination or a pic of it on their MGTF 160 doing nothing put flapping in the breeze. I might actually want a vid of this as pictures can be edited.....

Otherwise I know the day I go to get it all running and it just cranks and dies, some bright spark will say ahh, sounds the "flackett Sensor", you know the one on the 2 wire connector under the header tank, only fitted on MGTF 160's 2002 vintage, you'd never know it was there but wont run without it!!

I had fun getting it all running prior to dismantling the car, so slightly nervous.

But once I have established its compltely useless your welcome to it.

Can't help on where the flackett sensor is 8-), but what chassis is this 160 engine destined for?
Mike Hankin

Hi Mike

Its destined for Frank Costins last Car design, The Costin Roadster, weighs in at 550kgs have a look at http://www.specialistautomotive.com

The MGF makes a nice donor, engines in the right place etc.

Joe T

550kgs? That's going to be fun :o) Maybe you could use that connector to trigger the parachute...

How close to 50:50 weight do you think it'll be?
Mike Hankin

The first one I believe could do with a bit more weight up front, but it did not have a full screen and I am looking at moving a few bits about, I want to get the battery up front and towards the N/S its located behind the passenger at the moment.

I am trying to use as many parts off the MGF as possible, just battleing with the theoretical best position for the engine, even that is interesting as to where to take horizontals from etc

New school of thought on this,.......
Could it be a connector for the Air Con which is not installed on the 160TF,
The wiring diagram colours don't match but then I checked a few others and they dont match either.
The wires seem to go off to the right locations

So any body out there know what the Aircon pump connects to the loom with?
Does it bridge across to the engine bay loom or does the AC version have a different engine loom?

Never Surrender............
Joe T

Right, engine loom in bits today.
The grey white wire goes to the green engine loom connector then on to the main Large ECU connector.

The Pink black wire goes immediatly next to the grey white on the green connector but despite our best efforts cant find it coming out anywhere in the engine loom or ECU socket, dosn't get to the square socket under the inlet manifold. Lots of pink and black wires on sensors, but none buzz out to our one.
It has a splice in it before the engine connector which takes one wire to the small ECU Connector.

Are their any pin outs diagrams for the ECU, as I have located the pins on the sockets etc.
Like one page, with the ECU on it with all the pins numbered, then a legend explaining what they all are.
To be honest I am struggling with the diagrams and I am used to French and German cars!!

Thanks

Sorry forgot to add that going by the diagrams their only seems to be one SW Grey white wire out of the MEMS3 ecu going to 778 an air temperature sensor? its also has KB pink black wire.
Now would the car run ok without this? as this car ran fine.

Cheers

Joe T

Connection C0884 Engine Bay Temp Sensor. Controls the Engine bay fan.

G. Farthing

I think the Grey White wire from this goes to connection C159-11 on the ECU.
I think the missing item is 778 as Julian has confirmed the location and the wire coloring is correct, just need to get my head round how it still ran ok without it and whether it just does the engine bay fan?

Cheers
