MG MGF Technical - different hood problem

Hi Guys,
Recently I've noticed a draft emanating from the top right hand corner of the driver’s side window. It seems that the glass and the rubber seal have a small gap between them. The rest of the window seals well and fails to let water or air into the cabin. I've been to the Rover dealer and after a cursory glance was told there was little they could do about it. The passenger’s side is fine. I have noticed that there is a bolt where the hood joins to the body work and when I compare drivers to passenger’s side I think the passenger’s side has been screwed out more. Do I dare risk having a play with the bolt on the drivers’ side or is there another way of going about this? On while I’m on the same subject the whole hood rattles and creaks all the time. Is it safe to give all nuts and bolts a little tighten or will this lead to problems opening and closing the hood?

Cheers

Instructions can be found on both Tony's website (http://www.apttony.co.uk/Servicing/GlassAdjust.html) and on Dieter's (http://www.mgfcar.de) for adjusting the windows.

Another cause of the window misalignment is a failed window stop... What age is your car Morgan?
Rob Bell

Hi Rob,
The car is 6 years old. I have recently had the drivers side replaced as the window stop had snaped off. Both the drivers and passangers side were realigned at the same time.
Mogs

WOuld suggest that the drivers side was not realigned as well as the passenger side?
JohnP

Could be that one of the adjuster bolts has worked loose since adjustment - or the window wasn't properly adjusted in the first place as John suggests.

Might also be worth inspecting those window stops again... you never know your bad luck... :o/

I agree with the others - the adjustment is not difficult but it is time consuming as it is very hit & miss.

For the dealer to say there is nothing they can do is utter BULLSH*T and this attitude disgusts me - take it back and demand they do it properly OR to follow the old adage 'If you want a job done properly do it yourself' - do it your self following the excellent instructions now available on line.

Ted - one of the those that had to learn from experience 8 years back:-)

Thanks guys,
When I get the time Ill pop back to the garage and have a go at them. I bought my F last Nov and at the same time purchased and extended warranty. It has certainly been worth the money. So far ive had a new HG, two new window motors, replaced central locking, most of the sensors replaced on the engine management system, oh and a new radio as my old one was stolen just before I picked the car up:)
At this rate it wont be long before I've replaced the whole car.

You gotta laugh

Help. Just bought my wife a beautiful MGF (N Reg), but at the first heavy rain, the front and back driver and passenger carpet is soaked, and also the boot carpet. Where should I look first? I'm going out now to lift the carpets to see if I can track down the source of the leak, but any pointers would be most gratefully received.

Dave, Rob Bell's site is always a good starting point for help.
http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/water_leaks/leaks_opening_page.htm will get you Leak Help and you can always go backwards to see what else he can offer.

Also Tony has a lot of help and advice to offer at http://www.apttony.co.uk/

And also Paul at http://www.dotcomoff.co.uk/
