MG MGF Technical - does my mgf have power steering

This is probably a silly question but how do i know if my 1996 mgf has power steering?
donna

How heavy is it? MGF steering isn't light. Have a look under the bonnet. On the RHS, is there a big fuse labeled EPAS? If so, pull it out, then try parking the car. If it doesn't feel any different (or it doesn't have the fuse!) there's no power steering. If it's heavier (and I swear if it did have power steering you will feel the difference) then you do. I suspect you do, it's just it's heavy compared to other cars. but as you'll probably find not nearly as heavy as it is without!

p.s. driving without epas is great as long as you move when your steering.

On ignition switch on, you'll also get the EPAS check light illuminating if you have it fitted. Located in the central strip of warning lights between the rev-counter and speedo :o)

The traditional immediate visual identifier was the number of wheel spokes. Non EPAS cars came out of the factory with 5-spoked wheels. The EPAS option cars had 6 spokes.
fred

Sorry Fred but five spoke wheels were fitted to MPi cars and six spoked wheels to VVC

Both MPi and VVC could have ABS and Power Steering and our MGF (ordered in 1995 and delivered in 1996) is an MPi with ABS and Power Steering.

Yes I seem to remember VVC cars came with the ABS and Power Steering as standard whilst the MPi they were optional BUT the wheels were not changed!

Just to correct myself - six spokes to MPi and five spokes to VVC -- unless someone knows differently :-)

Ted

Just confirmed your latest post is correct. I didn't bother responding to earlier because it was only a small point and heading off-topic.
