MG MGF Technical - driver door opening won't operate internal lights

Hiyas,
The passenger door being opened turns on the interior lights etc but not when i open the driver door. Is there a magnetic switch or mechanical switch somewhere that needs WD40 or replacing; i can't see where it is and whether it needs replacing. Any hints please! Ta,
janine

Janine,
the door lock assy includes the switch for the interior light.

The door card has to come off to check the connector and harness from the lock to the body.
Does the immobilizer and alarm work correct ?

However I've only some pictures online here from the lock assy. No descriptions.

Hi Dieter,

The alarm works OK I assume as goes off if lift bonnet etc. The interior lights will eventually come on, but it takes a good 40"+. My old car had a switch like that on a fridge door; when it's released by opening the door it comes on!

I assume that when the door is opened it pulls on the cable to pull a switch and this switch's contacts are a bit dirty? Where can they be found? Are they near the hinge of the door? Seems a bit of an over-complicated design to me?

Really appreciate your help :-)

As Dieter says, the door switch is inside the door lock unit. You will need to take off the inside door trim to get at it. It will be this door switch that is failing to turn on the interior lights.

Thanks for that. When it's a nice day :-) Imagine there's nothing I need to be aware of when removing door trim.

CJJs thread has all the pics.

When I got my current F it sometimes wouldn't turn its interior light off on locking.
I had to take the door trims off to replace broken window stops and adjust the windows. In doing so I noticed there was no plastic film (or membrane) so I got some from rimmer brothers and the problem went away.
