MG MGF Technical - Dry Sump

Hi All!!!
On Tony Bolton's website he advertised a dry sump kit, I was wondering if these are still available for the F and if so who sells them????
Nick Lewis

MGF Cup cars all had them.

Therefore, best port of call MG Sports and racing?

...but why would you need one?

Wish I had one last year ;-) might have saved me trashing my engine.

I think last year when I posted, someone pointed out that with a deep sump, oil can "sloosh" from one side of the engine to the other, and cause localised loss of oil pressure.

However after discussing it with an engineer, I was advised that a baffled sump would probably be more suitable.

Though not got any idea where you could get one of those from either.

My understanding was both a baffle and a dry sump will stop oil starvation as you go round corners.

In addition to that, a dry sump will also stop some of the power loss by having the crank splashing about in oil.

There's also something about having a smaller engine and being able to put it lower down in the car for a lower center of gravity.

None of these effects I'd expect to be a problem on road going cars. :-)

How'd you break your engine anyway Paul?

I don't have an oil cooler let alone a baffled/dry sump and I kinda thrash my little car. Ooops.

Knockhill has a lot of corners :-/

and you were doing your bit to help reduce global warming in restricting your use of oil by only filling up to half !!!!

Ooops!
I never usually fill my car much above half at a track day myself!! Checking it lots as it goes down during the day!! Hmmm...

Note to self: check oil before track days.
Donnington next. :-)
Would love to do Knockhill having grown up watching races there, but have never had the chance. :-(

Anything exciting happing with CSMGF the week after next? Curious as I'll be 'home' visiting the relies in both Tullibody and Grangemouth. :-)
Will be in the baby bus (ZTT) and not the 'F.

And this was a dry-sump thread?!? Sorry. :)

or contact Dave Clelland.

And yes sorry for hijacking thread. :-)

paul weatherill

Look for catherum (sp?) cars, they have a dry sumped k-series, but you have to put the tank somewhere, so you may loosea lot of the boot.
