MG MGF Technical - EBC

A month ago I purchased and installed EBC discs and pads.

It now turns out that the rear right EBC dics seems to be bent. MGR will conduct a test early next week to see if the disc is bent or the mounting hub is the cause.

Has anyone of you come across this problem before??

I assume you have a pedal pulse - was it like this when first fitted.

There has been a number of comments re EBC warping on track days etc, however this could be disc or just pad material.

Paul, I assume that you mean with "pedal pulse" some inconsistency when hitting the brake?
If so, I haven't noticed any difference

I experienced warped EBC disks last year after a short period of having them fitted. EBC said they had had a casting problem and replaced the disks and pads for free.

New discs could be faulty of course. However, worth checking that a small bit of dirt is not sandwiched between hub and disc.....easily overlooked and trapped when changing discs in say a less than ideal DIY environment .... also professional set-ups sometimes very guilty here - I speak from direct experience.

With trapped dirt, even very small particles, the discs will never run 'true' and thus the performance will only deteriorate with continued use. Even if trapped dirt is discovered, it almost certainly means the discs are now worn irregularly and will never run true again.....unless lathe skimmed back to true ... costly.

When changing discs, worth using a dial gauge to check for truth....'run out' .. could save a lot of hassle later.

The"imperfection" in disc forces pad back, so during application of brakes this sets up a vibration transmitted back to brake pedal.

Exactly the same thing has happened to me !

Seriously warped disks (incredible vibration when braking) within 3 weeks of having them fitted . . . . And I was careful during the first 200 miles.

Very annoying as even if EBC replace them under warranty I'll still be stuck with the postage and packing costs (which to Switzerland are close to £50) and the fitting.

I had the hubs and bearings checked by the dealer, they are fine.

This is disappoiting, as I was expecting the EBC disks to be better, and it looks like they're worse than the standard Rover parts.

Robert, thanks for the number of EBC technical, I'll call them on Monday.

Neil, did they pay for the postage and packing in your case?

Anthony,
EBC should stand the postage if a warranty claim and a true fault.
The EBC green you need is the latest material and should be AF44/78, This is printed on the box. If not this number then you have an old material and should not be used as the earlier material caused judder.
Hope this is of some assistance to you .

I had bought the disks through Brown and Gammons so they contacted EBC. I did not pay for any postage.
EBC did admit to having a problem so you shouldn't have any problems.
Neil Stothert

That's right, I bought them through B&G so it's them I'll have to contact.

Thanks for your advice, chaps, it really is helpful.

This means the car is going to be off the road for a least two weeks. I can't help feeling that I should have paid a bit more and got the standard parts fitted by an MG/Rover dealer.

For those that are interested in the solution on the original thread

I went to the dealer to have the hub and bearing checked. And there was the cause....

Back in the old days, my F suffered some damage from a collision. At that time the repairs have not been carried out properly. As a result, the non-original bearing that was fitted during the repairs started to show excessive wear and tear impacting the hub that was slight bent as well. Bottom line, had to replace the hub and bearing. Bye bye 500 euros

Thanks for all the advice gents! I can hit the road again!
