MG MGF Technical - EBC Greenstuff Pads

I need to buy some EBC Greenstuff pads for both front and back for my F. MGFC quote £39.95 incl VAT for a front or back set, B&G quote £39.99 front incl VAT and £40 back incl VAT.

Anyone know of anywhere cheaper?
Fiona

Hi Fiona Mike Satur might have some. I run them for day to day road use in the front.
but, I wouldnt fit them if you are anticipating any trackwork, and I wouldnt put them in the rears, they dont bite enough.

Seriously get Mintex 1166's for the rear. I have 1177's but they are quite brutal. Fit scary Mintex's in the front if you want to have a trackday.

Neil

Fiona,

They are reasonable prices but you could also try

Neil,
Mintex 1144 has a cof of .45 same as Greenstuff but 1155 and 1166 are lower at .42. Greenstuff are not a track pad and the revised Red ceramic should be used for road and track and should have a cof between .4 and .5

As far as I am aware the only compounds safe for street use are M1144 and M1155. Higher compounds are not safe for the road because the pads have to be warm to work effectively. Such pads are only for use on a race track or forest rally.

Why are you wasting time over a 5p difference in price?
Patrick Beet

just to hi-jack this thread for a moment (sorry, Fiona)...

Anyone have suggestions for pads/disks for a ZS180 (road and trackday use)?

>Why are you wasting time over a 5p difference in price?
Patrick, I guess not everyone is as rich as you and me! I assume that Fiona is trying to find somewhere that is considerably cheaper than thes two. However, these prices seem remarkably cheap when compared to what a MGR dealer would charge for the OEM pads.

I agree Ralph.

Fiona, if your keen on the Mintex pads that Neil suggests, I'll ask my dad to get a price from his local supplier (as they do supply Mintex), and he won't charge MGR fitting prices. I'll take you for a spin in the 160 now with hoops fitted at last.
Linda

Neil, Paul & Ralph - thanks for your input, much appreciated. Linda - I'll catch up with you away from this forum - don't want to bore everyone witless with our chatter! And Patrick . . . . I think Ralph said it all.
Fiona

I use the Mintex 1177 on the front of my F and I think it finaly has the brakes it should have had from the off.

PS: they work fine form cold. But as they are no longer available I suspect the next lot will be 1166's
Steve Ratledge

Steve each to their own. I guess you have ABS.
1177's in my mind are just not safe on the road as they lock up the front wheels too early. I keep them for track days.

Neil

Ralph,

Should try Z board.

Depends on what you want but start with ss hoses and upgraded fluid.

Tyres stop the car but the brakes need to dissipate heat and for example 4 stops from 60mph can generate 500f of heat but 1 from 140 700f.

As a current production car, as far as I am aware it would be illegal to use a non E marked pad on the road, so try these first - Greenstuff are good for 650f, if overworked you will get black dust, otherwise change to a race pad for track days.

Organic Pads fade due to outgassing - grooved (stay with minimum say 6 ) and drilled help by removing gas - Black Diamond discs are approx £180 for front. The rears handle less of brake load and do not usually require uprating apart from perhaps pads.

Ralph, I also have ZS180 - can you email me and I'll share some info.
David S

David,

Not much info for ZS so would be interesred in your info.

Paul
Paul

Dave, you have mail.

The reason that I posted here (and interrupted Fiona's post) is that the Z board is a little bit dead and there are so many experts that visit here...
