MG MGF Technical - ECU Elise S1 - MGF compatibility

Hi guys! It has come to my attention that the ECU that came with the/an elise MKI (S1) has the same partn° than mine, MKC104112.
Although, my car has ABS, aircon and probably a different pinout for the instrument pack. None of which are in the Elise.

Seems weird these ECU´s have the same partn°.
If I´d call ATP electronics and enquire for a reconned MKC104112 ECU, they wouldn´t even know whether this is for an elise or MGF equiped with whatever specs!

So, can anyone shed some light on this subject! Could I use Erik & Bruno´s (MG-SP)
T4 to set the ECU to my car?

I´ve got this neat little project running for some time now and I need a backup plan in case thins turn for the worse (or the bang if you wish)

I believe that the S1 Elise uses MEMS1.9, like the MGF. However, later versions of the car use a Lotus developed ECU.

With regard to your observation regarding the pin-out configuration, I am surprised to hear that there is any difference in the MEMS whatsoever between the two cars - so silly question (apologies): are you sure that they're different?

Hi Rob,
I didn´t actually get to read the Lotus MEMS 1.9 ECU pinout. I´d like to see it though. I believe the pins for i.e. AC and ABS are present and printed but remain unused on the elise.
My workshop manual has pinout list.

Rover MEMS is also used in Caterhams. However, the Rover parnumber I received from a Caterham adept´s MEMS is not in my EPC (I have every ROVER/MG car covered it)! So It is my believe CAterham Rover ECU´s are developped specially to suit caterhams.
I´ve been told (by Peter Carmichael) that the MGF´s AC pinout is used to activate a switch light at 7300rpm on Sevens!
Items with the same pertn° (be it ECU or something else) should serve the same purpose. I think I´m going to give it a try,

Caterham may be a special case, as the engines were supplied via X-Power in the later years, and use MEMS3. Earlier cars will presumably use MEMS1.9, but I don't know much about these.

Peter is your man though - he's incredibly knowledgable, as you've already discovered :o)

Hello David,

I don't think the Lotus guys will gain much weigth reduction if they drop the ABS, Airco part of the ECU ;o)
I can confirm that the early Elises were using MKC104112. If you need a spare MEMS1.9 or some playing time with the T4, let me know.

regards,
Erik

>>*LOL* I was more thinking in terms of Rover production lines not implementing this in either programming or hardwaring it (the ECU) that is.

Anyway, ECU is on its way and when time is due, I´ll for sure use MG S-P´s services,

BTW: Have fun on the RR this weekend! (I jus got back from class now:-( )

cheers

David - this website may be of some help? http://www.alcester-racing-sevens.com/converter_-_soldering.htm

Check out the pin out details...

Great Rob. I´ve visited this site, but solely for their VVC manifold fettling. Didn´t dig in deeper.
