MG MGF Technical - ecu rev limit
Hello! Does anybody know at what rpm the ecu is designed to "protect" the engine,by limiting revs.My '98 vvc is shutting down at approx. 5.6/7 k.Is this normal? Thanks for any comments.

I have redlined my VVC with no cut out. Having said that I have not exceeded the red line so I do not know at what point it will cut out above the red line

There is a rev limiter, on a VVC I imagine it would cut in at 7,200rpm (the start of the redline). I've certainly hit it in the past - feels like a high speed mis-fire. It obviously won't be able to protect the engine if you change down too early! :) Cheers, Tim

Thanks for the comments.Looks like i've got a problem!

If certain sensors fail I know the ECU will go into fail-safe mode and limit the engine speed - but I thought that was to 3000rpm. It may be you have a problem with the VVC system? Tim
