MG MGF Technical - ECU Temp Sensor Circlip

Hi guys,
using your wonderful instructions, (not being experienced in things mechanical but willing to have a go), I decided to test my ECU temperature sensor as my fans arent coming on and I have the overheating when stuck in traffic problem.
The instructions are great but I'm not. I thought I would clean the sensor first (as it did look dirty as did the rest of the engine) then try the 'run the car then remove the sensor' test. However I had trouble getting the circlip off and when I did it flicked off and into the engine somewhere. (Yes I did read the 'careful not to loose' tip. Silly me.)
Anyway I cant find where the circlip went. Now what ??
Do you know if this clip is supplied with the ECU Temperature Sensor ?? Believe it or not it is half the price and nearly as quick for me to buy my parts from the UK than to get them in from Melbourne. There isnt a ECU temperature Sensor available here and only 1 is available in Melbourne. I should perhaps replace the sensor anyway, especially as I have to now order a Circlip ? Does anyone know if this is a separate part and if so what the number would be?

Linda,

Take the sensor to a car wreckers, use your charm and they may be able to match a clip that will fit the part. The clip would be from another type of car, but who cares. as long as it fits.

Cheers,

Oh and also, if you want to find the clip, first look closely under the car. If no luck then get yourself a coat hanger, open it and then stick or glue onto the end a piece of magnet and then just slowly and carefully poke around the engine area that you think the clip is on. Hopfully the magnet will pickup the clip.

Have you removed the engine cover yet?
If not, then do that and it will be easier to find it.
Also look on the frame area in the engine compartment.
It may be just sitting there.

Gook luck.

Think I will try to get the dimensions from the 'push-onto the sensor' plug portion that the clip goes over(which isnt detachable). I cant get one from the dealers and I cant get the dimensions from them either although they gave me the name of a place to go to try to get a replacement (a auto -electrical place). As I have the roof and engine plate off etc, I dont want to have to put it back together to take the car there unless I have no other choice.
Thanks for your help.

Linda, if you e-mail me direct with your address I will mail one across to you.

Should be easy to get from a breakers, look at other MG Rover cars with K series engine.
If it the rectuangular metal clip I suspect you don't need to remove it to pull the connector off - just press it in and pull.

Good Luck.

.. and when you ask at breakers..

I'm after five of this connectors, including piece of wires (as long as possible)
Will take cost, of course.
