MG MGF Technical - Electric Boot release kit

I am wiring up an electric boot release kit and I need to connect the yellow wire to the ignition switch accesory position (live on the first click of the key)and the red wire to the ignition switch main position (live only when the ignition lights are on on the dash or when the engine is running) two scotch locks are provided for this purpose.

Can anyone tell me the best wires to crimp these to and the colours that I have to look for under the dash.

Hi Chris,
Scotch Locks in my experience are not the most reliable means of connection in the long term. You could cut the wire and fit an in-line bullet connector with a T off for your boot release.
I found power (ignition switch "main") from the thick green wire in the loom to the wiper motor plug. Raise bonnet and the plug can be seen on the drivers side just near where the big loom goes through the bulkhead. Ignore the thinner green/brown and green/red wires.
Hope this helps

Where d'you get the kit from out of interest Chris?

I got the kit off Ebay, it came with instructions but not that helpful i'm afraid. The instructions stated MGF Roadster fitment but then did not go into detail about where to connect the wires except for stating to the Ignition accessory and main supply.

Even the earth was vague by stating "to a suitable earthed bolt" the cable was six inches long and the motor had to be mounted in the boot lid. The connector supplied would only reach the bolt on the catch and it was too small to fit around it, go figure.

I have laid all the wiring today and all that remains is connecting the red and yellow wires to the ignition circuits.

I have connected the Yellow wire to the Cigar lighter/radio circuit but it blows the fuse every time I activate it.

Got fed up in the end and left it for another day after checking all wiring and blowing three fuses.
