MG MGF Technical - engine upgrades

I'm depressed so i'm going to treat myself to a crazy engine upgrade for my f.
What's reccommended. i'm guessing alternative head?

I already have daytona/itg/ttb

and before anyone says do the suspension and brakes first, that's been seen to by techspeed already

Don't want anything dangerous linke super/turbo charger / nos

i was goingto get a CR gearbox, but don't want to suffer on long jorney
Kingsley

Is the TT supercharger dangerous.

From what I hear the lovely Elise people, who seem to have had most conversions, have caused the bugs to be removed.

I am sorely tempted, myself...

Kingsley, mate, if your feeling depressed, best thing is to get out from under the car, and get behind the wheel.

If you've got spare cash, spend it on fuel!!!

paul weatherill

I have aircon too btw, that rules out some supercharger implementations.

What's the budget for the mood lift Kingsley? ;o)

Before a head, perhaps consider a pair of piper cams. A pair of the 'softer' fast road profiles will do the job nicely.

They'll work reasonably in conjunction with MEMS, but better still with a remappable ECU - for which the majority of K-series tuners would recommend an Emerald M3D.

In fact, the Emerald is so flexible, you can keep it and use it on your ported head when the 'next stage' is reached!

Oh, and think about a 4-2-1 manifold before going down the head modification route - the standard item really is pretty poor (in fact, if nothing else, get Mike Satur to bore the standard one out - gives a noticible improvement for surprisingly little investment!)

Hi.

When reading all this, I was wondering if is it possible to buy a ripped off Elise and put the 190 engine into the F? Wouldn't it be simplier, or I'm I just crazy? Will it fit? Thanks for the answers.

Valter.
Valter

yep i know i should drive the car too. i can't wait to go on the track.
any ideas on labour for fitting either head/cams/ecu/exhast manifold? they sound a bit non diy to me.
budget will be dicided when i decide what i want.
i can't see why an elise engine wouldn't fit, but i'd expect even a written off one to be expensive.
Kingsley

budget approx 500 notes for the cams, and a further 500 notes for the ECU Kingsley. Not astronomical. Contact Piper regarding the cams - they should be able to give a much better idea of what costs to expect, but I reckon the cams should weigh in at under 800 quid, fitted and sorted.

Head is much, much more depending on what and where you buy. Check out PTP, Mike Satur, Antony Burgess for head costs (as well as any one of a number of Elise specialists, such as Minister Racing engines, or even David Andrews himself). Heads are in a completely different league in terms of expertise and cost.

Looking into that lot should cheer you up no end! :o)
Rob Bell

Cheers rob, already grinning at the prospect.
Kingsley

Kingley,

Maybe Dr. Bell was a psychiatrist...

:-)

Glad to hear you are feeling better!

Kingsley,

Talking about Elises, there was a girlfriend for sale on the Lotus Elise General BBS. Trade in for an upgrade was also possible.

>> Head is much, much more depending on what and where you buy. <<

Head is about the same money Rob. £450.00 for a Stage 1, same again for labour (depending on where you go).

"Head is much, much more depending on what and where you buy"

Why not buy the aforementioned girlfriend from the Elise BBS and see what she can offer? ;-)

Is that:

"Bob Never" was in the USA, or :

"Bob" Never was in the USA??

This thread is getting way OT
Any ideas on performance gains from the different types of mods? both on paper and on the road?
Kingsley

Reidy,

It's Me, and I never was in the USA. Used this as a sign in when the webmaster "upgraded" the site and it always showed my location as USA.
Perish the thought! Nice burgers, decent hotels and Hooters but that's about it....
Bob

And Kingsley, when a subject starts to veer towards the surreal and/or innane, you know you've had all the advice you're gonna get!
Bob

You're right bob, i'll start a new thread.
