MG MGF Technical - Exhaust Bracket

I have been looking through the archives for a cure to my rattling exhaust.

It seems like I need an extra exhaust bracket (part number GEX13002).

Does anyone have any top tips / instructions for fitting this.

I did notice some info, but had trouble de-ciphering it.

Check that the band round the exhaust hasn't broken away from it's mounting to the rear. Happened to me and was the cause of my noisy exhaust.

It was picked up at the last service, cost about £15.

Hi,

Must agree with Leigh... check if none of the mountings of the exhaust is broken before buying and trying to get the bracket fitted.

Bought one myself, got under the car to notice that the bracket was allready fitted.... the rattling sound was caused by a broken exhaust mounting point.

A right pain in the a**e to fit

I agree its not easy.You need top and bottom access and a comprehensive tool kit. I slotted the bracket on one of the holes which enabled the bolt to be fitted first and then tightened after fitting the bracket.The end result though was well worth the effort.

Tim,
did it the same way at my old MGF, but had only an >easy DIY tool kit<
Result was that I never got tight the upper left at the engine. (seen from behind the car). The bracket worked also with one bolt to the engine only.

Though I think the only way for this bolt is using a 1/4' ratchet with fitting socket and a good short kardan link ?
Or should this one be tightened at first and than the other behind the manifold.
The downpipe flange side was easy works compared with the engine side.

Mine also does its job well with only one of the bolts to engine fitted!
