MG MGF Technical - Exhaust Clamp

Can anyone tell me if the rear silencer clamp that wraps round the box and is bolted to the side of the Cat is vital?
Only mine has just broken on rust joint :o(

Dave.
DB Ferris

No, it won't be vital as some 3rd party boxes don't come with the strap around the box.
Erik

Cheers Eric,
Always good to have a second opinion.

Dave,

and the third option is buying a new ;)
WCU100870 for 15 quid. Wherein, I do not know whether this fits to your MGF. It's said this strap will fit to early MGF until MY 1996 only. Can't get why. Perhaps the circumference changed with VIN 12535 ?

*If you're in daubt, leave it out *

Cheers Dieter.
The only problem is the bolts holding the clamp to the cat are rusted solid!
I've tried WD40 but they just won't move.
I hacksawed the clamp off close to the cat.
That's where my "tweeting" was coming from (see earlier thread) the top half was rubbing on the silencer box.

Dave :o)

Cheers !
Most useful and _luvely_ tool, isn't it.
:)
Dieter

Mine was removed and at replaced at 24000 miles, exhaust is still fine at 94500 miles without it.
