MG MGF Technical - Exhaust - Flexi Section Broken

I have got a hole in the flexi section of my exhaust. The note sounds great but it is coming up to MOT time and hence needs to be fixed. Not bad considering that the car is 6.5 years old and covered 136,000 miles.

I have checked on Mike Stur and B&G's website and have the following prices for a replacement exhaust section:

- Mike Stur £170 inc VAT
- B&G £101 inc VAT

Which one should I go for and why?

Are there any other options that I should consider?

Thanks

Andrew

Does £69 mean nothing at all to you?

Is there any difference in the specs of the 2 products to justify a 68% difference in price?

Will the MS product last approx 68% longer than the B&G product?

Will the MS product boost power and/or torque?

Will the MS product reduce exhaust noise? (not sure if good or bad).

If you are in daubt, leave all out...

And ask at any welder to replace just the flexi section.

See for 60mm diameter and 200mm long

An hour for weld works and done for app 60 quid.

I'd go for mild steel personally: these flexi pipes don't corrode - they suffer from fatigue and crack and the outer protection wires snap.

IIRC stainless steel is a stiffer material, and may therefore, actually fail sooner than the mild steel version???

Same thing happened to me.
Ordered one from B&G ,which arrived the next day. (300+ miles away ! ).
In my opinion ,and that of the motor sport workshop that fitted it(no hassle for me and just for £25)it looks beautifully well made and fitted perfectly.
Also, its about half the price of the original M.G./Rover mild steel item !

Hope this helps you with your choice.

Tim found this really interesting website: http://www.senioraftermarket.co.uk/technical/repairflex.html

Might be a useful alternative?

I am sure I saw pics somewhere of a flex section repair using a couple of large jubilee clips.

Lowest cost option!
