MG MGF Technical - F and TF Drag Coefficients?

Hi.

I'm just curious to know the Drag Coefficient (longitudinal axis) on the F (and TF, probably not the same). I know it varies if you have a splitter, wider tyres, soft top or hardtop installed, and so on... But if any of you guys has a factory figure...

In order to make some calculations it would be great to have the frontal surface area too...

Thanks,

Valter.

Yup, see http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/facts_and_figures/aerodynamic_data.htm

The MGF Trophy is apparently the most aerodynamic of all the F-derived cars :o)

Your website was it all really, isn't it?!
The figures are far from impressive, in fact they are not really good, for instances a ZT-T has C of 0.29.
You van always argue that a Caterham has 0.62, but that's a different story.

The trophy front spliter makes the difference, ah?

Thanks, Valter.

Indeed you are right Valter! But at least the frontal area of an F is smaller than a ZT...

As for how much the front splitter contributes to the Cd, I think it is difficult, insofar as the Trophy also has a rear spoiler... But I think you are right: the splitter probably contributes the most to that lower Cd on the Trophy.

Guys

I know its a bit off topic but does the rear spoiler reduce the turbulence behind the car much. The rear of my car always seem to get so filthy in the slightest bit of rain..

I assume its just for down force but if it breaks the turbulence up enough at the rear end i may look at fitting one..

Alternatively anyone know where you can buy self cleaning paint!

When the air reaches the boot spoiler it's in its turbulence state already and the front splitter is "hit" by laminar flow. So, for the Cd the front is much more important, normally...

Well the spoiler IMHO will not reduce the turbulence. In fact it will amplify it, as you create a bigger trailing edge area. The rear will have a greater area, thus creating a bigger low pressure zone.

But this is all theoretical speculation, as without a windtunnel you will not get there. Aerodinamics defies sometimes common sense...

Cheers, Valter.
