MG MGF Technical - Fabric Question & another two as well...

I have recently purchased a second hand VVC.

There are a couple of problems with it that i am happy with but would like to know if there are ways of fixing.

The driver seat has some wear on the leather. it has rubbed and the underneath is showing. It there away to touch this up? basically the underneath (light colour) is showing against the dark green of the leather.

Also, there is a small nick, well two actually. One is about the size of a 5p (it has been patched from the inside) and the other looks like a cats claw. neither leak from what i can see (using the recent weather as a test) but never the less they could do with perhaps sorting it out. what methods have people used to fix things like this?

This one is not related to fabric wear - there is always talk in these forums about exhausts - my VVC doesnt sound as good as it should, and most people have the same problem, I would love to get something with more grunt, but it seems so expensive to get the new (proper!) exhaust fitted. also, the sound and change to the bhp seems to depend on what you choose. i dont want the insurance to go up, and therefore the BHP cant go up.

lastly, the start button problem. i have a start button that i bought on ebay, it is the honda s2000 one. i really want to fit it but am really sceptical about making changes to the ignition of the car. many people make comments about using the power supplied to the cig lighter but in the very simple instructions that i got it doesnt mention this and say about using the power from teh ingnition switch. please, will some please help me with this. i want to fit it but dont want to mess up the car.

I have never actually heard them so I cannot comment but you can get large tail finishers for the F. Don't know if they improve sound but they do look a little more substantial.

Alternatively you could have a look at the ebay listing below (I'm not, or don't know, the seller). It will effect your insurance but the few horses you gain should not really make that much difference.

Phil, that's an 'SP' Miltek Supersports exhausts. I agree with the seller - it does sound great! The other two top options are Mike Satur's Daytona (although I've not heard the new Janspeed version) and the Phoenix system. The latter has interchangeable tail pipes to suit your taste/mood! :o)

John, regarding the leather damage, you can either use some liquid leather/ restorer which can recolour the leather - or you'll need to refer to a specialist trimming company.

Who trimmed your car's interior? If the head rest has an 'MG' octagon embossed on it, then it is by Newton Commercial. NC are a superb family run company, and are sure to be very helpful in aiding you in restoring the leather to as-new condition.

I don't think that MG ever offered green leather as standard?

The other significant source of leather interiors was Mike Satur. The style of Mike's leather is pretty distinctive - have a look at his website http://www.mikesatur.co.uk to see if yours is similar to those designs shown. :o) Again Mike is sure to be very helpful to you in restoring your car's interior.

Failing all that, any local specialist could help...

John, are we talking about hoods here? No particular experience I'm affraid - when my old hood developed holes/wear/damage I simply replaced it with another! Anyone else here have any suggestions?

Phil / John,

These do not make any difference to the sound of the exhaust - only for looks.

The seats are infact MGR seats - they are black and green leather - the green part of the leather though needs some touching up. There are boxster hoods attached to the car as well, and these too have some markings that need touching up. They are from Mike Satur. I have emailed mike satur asking if it is possible to touch up the seats and or hood and had nothing back.

i emailed about a week ago!

Yes this is refering to the hood. Sorry i didnt state it originally.

John

are these the standard fit half leather fabric centre panel...black leather outer with green piping ?

If so...the piping is vinyl and prone to wear on the outer edge of the drivers seat...showing the white lining inside.
Grahame

Infact it is neither.

They are black and green leather. No fabric, and not coloured piping, they are black and green leather seats.

John, I think that your car has a Heritage Interior. Special order - and very nice. The head rests will probably have MG octagons embossed on them - as I indicated in an earlier post, these interiors were prepared for MG by Newton Commercial.

Try contacting them for more information: http://www.newtoncomm.co.uk/

I have checked and it does NOT have the MG logo on the embosed on the headrest. There are some small tabs with MG written on them (they are at the shoulders of the chairs, but i think that is standard on most seats.

The car came with the brochure when i bought it off the chap and it had in there FULL black and green leather seats as an option, which he purchased.

Unfortuntaley it appears they are not Heritage seats
