MG MGF Technical - Faulty Oil Temp Guage

Hi All,

I have just re-assmebled the centre console on my mk1 mgf (after changes to stereo) - now, when turning on the ignition, the oil temp guage flips straight to max (well, beyond max actually). The car and engine is cold, so i know the reading is incorrect - does anyone have any idea what i may have done? - i'm sure i replaced all the connectors properly?

thanks!

Check for short cicuits due to worn wire insulations or a cut wire.
The diagram might help.

Thanks Dieter, i'll take a look for any possible short circuits. I guess there's no really much that can go wrong with the guage itself??

No, not a lot really. Been a while since I last took the oil gauge out of my car, but I seem to recall that the loom plug is handed, so I don't think that it is possible to wire it in the wrong way round... so why there is a problem I don't really know?
Rob Bell

Thanks for you comments Rob - they prompted me to checked again and somehow i'd managed to re-attach the 3 pin connector plug 1/4-turn round the wrong way (so all pins were connected, but in the wrong sockets) - i've reconnected properly and all is back to normal again!

Thanks again for your help guys.

That's a relief Mike - glad to hear that all is once again fixed :o)
