Darren, check out rob bell's tyre bible. Also remember if you buy a back-box you have to get it fitted (which is fine if you're handy with a welding torch I suppose).

I have the Firestone Firehawk 200 tyres on my 2001 MGF, the fronts have now done 28k with about 4mm of tread still on. The rears have now done 35K with about 2mm of tread left.
Handling – I have not noticed any problems except in the wet after a long dry spell then rain when the roads are very greasy, then the back can be a bit twitchy. On constant long wet periods no problems. I do drive a lot on country lanes to and from work and I do thrash it a bit.
Hope this helps, I shall be fitting these tyres again – at least they last a lot longer than my original Goodyear tyres I got about 20K out of them.

Thanks Brian had a lot of thought people are saying avons, toyos, goodyear and contis which i have at the
moment, what do they retail at the moment ?? i wonder why the web site does not say these then? umm have you ever had your passenger door go mental on you chattering ..

Hi Darren,

Sorry, only just spotted this thread. The tyre bible of BBS comments on the performance on tyres concentrated on handling and ride performance, rather than longevity. I'd imagine that most of the tyres on that list will last about 20k miles of 'average' road use. Some, like the Bridgestone, probably significantly less.

Pirelli P6000 or P7000 willl probably wear well - and the Toyos seem to wear well too. Which is the best? Not sure - but it all depends on how you want to compromise; the hardest wearing tyre is quite possibly the one that will scare the living daylights out of you when you come to the first corner (in rain or shine!)...

The front's are £53 each all in and the rear's are £58 all in, I get them from the local Esso Petrol station over the road from work (Warton Nr Preston). If google the firestone tyre it comes up with spec and performance.
Never had any problems with door lock's but could be a dirty connection inside the door harness or lock connector.

In my opinion sticky soft tyres are the best for a F/TF it is a mid engined sports car after all and loves going round corners quickly. I have used a few different tyres and details can be found here http://aquagrafix.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ follow the links top the running cost spreadsheet.
