MG MGF Technical - Fitting after market bucket seats

hi,

i have some leather fixed back sparco bucket seats from my last car. I also have universal seat frames. Does any onme know the ebst way to mount seats like these to an F? Can you use the MGF runners on the sparco seats? As they bolt to the floor in a funny way at the rear of the frame.

many thanks for any help/advice
matthew

Which Sparco seat have you got Matthew? Any pix of the model you have? A number of us want to change seats too.

You'll gather from the above that I haven't done what you're proposing to do - however, a number of others have looked to fit bucket seats to the MGF. The most usual solution is to bolt the seat into a single position - hardly the best solution for those of us who share our car with a significant other.

The *main* problem with after market seats (other than "will they fit?") is the torsional stiffening box that runs between the two sills - half way under the standard seat runners - part of the reason why the seating position in the F is set somewhat too high. This causes significant headaches when it comes to installing other seats into the F - which has been done once at Techspeed, but resounding to the comments "never again". However, attaching a seat to the MGF runner could be a cunning solution, but I simply don't know what would be involved in attempting this.

Answers on a post card to the usual address please.

hmmmmm, well it sounds like it must be pretty tough to do. I have 2 sparco sprint bucket seats (fixed back) and using anything other than the original mgf runnersn seems to be out of the question, due to the funny way it bolts to the floor

(the front bolt goes in vertically and the rear bends down and the bolt goes in horizontaly)

i'd like to see if the runner off the F fits my seat if i'am feeling brave i'll have a go.

in the mean time here is a link to a rather extreme solution to the problem, might inspire a more practical answer.

Ah ha! I recognise that website! :o) I presume that the F is looking a little more complete now than in the pictures? :o)

Good luck with the modification of the seat runners - if you figure out a way of hybridising the Sparco seat with the standard runner, then I know quite a few people who'd be interested to hear how you did it! :o)

Ensure seat belt mountings remain as secure as standard ortherwise some MOT examiners will fail you.

Well it seems as it has been done, one of the most heavily modified (not too much at my likes, I must confess...)MGF I've seen, did it.

See those links (and if anyone can translate, you're wellcome...)

I'm amazed that site is still on the web - it's been there since about 1999 - and there doesn't seem to be have been many updates since then.

BUT there are clues as to remove the standard seat subframe to fit a new seat - worth investigating further!

*LOL* I remember my visits to that site in my early MGF days. That was after some late night internet (?)plunges.
Someone make a mirror of it fast. Donīs site is already lost and gone :o(
David Peters

Well, it is true the site is laying on the net for ages, and that probably no one of us would like to transform his F/TF into... errr ... that.

But there are some clues, as Rob said, on some interesting things.

A mirror would be a great idea - but preferably translated into a language other than Japanese ;o) Altavista just isn't up to it LOL
