MG MGF Technical - Fitting the middle brake light

I was thinking of purchasing an used centre brake light from the MGF Centre. However they do not come with fitting instructions. Is the unit easy to fit, i.e. it plugs in? Or do I have to splice into wires and route it into the boot via a hinge etc?

beerie,

loads of post regarding this look for high level brake light.

ok, its not that high, but that's what its refered as.

think if you have abs, the wiring is all there,
open boot, locate interior light in boot lid, stick finger in hole and wire should be in there.

then its a case of removing plastic trim, where the light fits, break out the small section where the connector wire goes thru.

reassemble and test, thats it simple eh?

as said, try doing a search for high level brake light.

Instructions for fitting these can be found at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/HLBL.htm

Pretty easy to do :o)

Good luck

Mine's fitted upside down - is this normal? I recently had it off to get some condensation out of it and when I was fitting it correct way up the wires got in the road and it wouldn't fit properly. Turned it upside down and it went on fine. The red plastic cover is shaped and I wondered if that is why I was getting water in it.

????? - Upside down??

It only fits one way up, as the connectors have to go thru the hole in the mounting.

(i think mine has "hella" or something written on it, this is upside down, presumably in manufacture, is this what you mean?)

Yup, that's normal: the writing on the lamp unit is upside down when the lamp is fitted correctly.

Seems daft to me too ;o)

Designed for the Australian market?

Sorry for the confusion - "Hella" is upside down. If this is normal, everything is OK.

However, during the winter months I get condensation in the high brake light and side indicator repeaters. I've taken them off dried them out and smeared vasaline round seals, They all seem to fit and work properly, I'm just worried that through time the connections will corrode. Anybody got any pearls of wisdom.
