MG MGF Technical - Fog Lights
Has anyone fitted fog lights that are not the standard Rover items? and how difficult would they be to fit? I would like something smaller, possibly quite unique and hopefully cheaper. Do Halfords do sush a kit?

I've often wondered why so many people fit "fog" lights these days other than as a fashion statement. Look at the Construction and Use Regulations to see when they can LEGALLY be used, look on www.halfords.com for prices and then see if you will drive in fog in London often enough for the hassle of fitting. Leave fog lights in city street lighting for the less well endowed "hot hatch with hat on backwards" brigade.

Sorry Tim but 'fog lights at all times' are a pet hate of mine. I rate them up there with 'signal once, pull out then look', 'signal for no benefit' and 'BSM' (brake, swerve, mirror).

I guess you get a lot of pet hates, what with the ABD and the motorcycle! Will

Hi Will You're probably right but I still love France by car or bike. You must make the effort and get over there soon.

John I can't agree with you enough about fog lights when used unnecessarily. Mine would I feel alter the aesthetics of the front for the better (turned off) when not required, but would also be useful at certain times, i.e. when its fogy.

Tim I'm sure you knew my comments were slightly tongue in cheek and prompted by "unseasonal" weather while I was stuck in a non air conditioned office. As soon as I got out tonight I saw a 306 with it's fog lights on and I almost saw the benefits to him. I do agree that fog lights on the F do improve the front surround. Good luck in fitting and using/abusing your new lights.

I have a 306 with front fogs. I have an MGF with front fogs. All laws aside for a minute... The 'F's fogs are much more of a fashion statement. I do use them, but only when it's late at night and I'm on full beam anyways. I have oft thought about wiring them into the full beam. (How *would* I do this? Anyone?) They are cheaply made (sorry!) and scatter way too much light to be useful without blinding others. The Pug's fog lights are *much* better. They are useful and do not blind others. They are most probably illegal, but they are usefull and do not blind others. Having said that, I don't use them that much due to the risk of some anal retentive policeman pulling me over. As for buying/fitting... They can be bought and fitted yourself. The biggest problem is that you have to take a hacksaw to the front bumber!! If you get it wrong, then you need a new bumper. If the dealer gets it wrong, you get your stonechips fixed for free!! :o) They are very easy to fit other than the cutting of the bumper. I've relaced the glass on one of mine and it's easily done. (No, the glass is not available as a seperate item, but I did a diy job with a spare/broken fog light.) Good luck. Cheers, Paul.
