MG MGF Technical - Fuse problem

Can anyone tell me if it is normal for the radio and clock fuse to stop the car locking okay.

Radio stopped working and then when I locked the car no indicators flashed yet car did lock but not deadlock, on unlocking indicators did flash.
I then noticed the clocked had stopped, so checked the cig lighter worked fine, so when I got home checked fuses and yep clock/ice fuse 15amp had blown, put in spare and all okay and locking working properly.

I never thought that locking would be on a different fuse for locking and unlocking.

Have I got a strange car.

Nope. (note - without checking!)

The boot/bonnet lamps are on a purple wire (always on - fused), clock and radio memory are also on a purple wire. Cig lighter is fused/switched so on a diffrent circuit.

The alarm moniters the boot and bonnet and will not alow superlocking if it see's either is open.
Without feed voltage the alarm assumes the boot/bonnet is open, so the alarm will not superlock or flash the indicators.

In a matter of time the fuse will go again, when it does you might want to inspect the wires around the boot hinge - there you will find fraying where the hinge has worn the sheilding down, application of tape will cure you problem.

Tom,

Happened to me too, in my case it was the wiring on the interior boot light that did it. Radio and clock were both off as was the remote alarm.

Maybe I have a problem in the boot as I have noticed recently that the alarm goes off sometimes if I open the boot.

If it is the problem I will not be happy as the wire is probably the newest bit on the car after all my eletric problems a couple of years ago.

Found the problem and it is worst than wearing out the wire has brocken in fact 2 wires have broken and it is where the boot wires go into the main wire loom rather than where they have been rubbing.

Everytime the boot is opened or closed it looks like that there was no slack specially where the cable leaves its plastic sleeve.

I might try and get some pictures tomorrow and get them on the web.

Tom, I presume you mean at the Y join from boot lid into loom? If is that joint then there are loads of hits in the archive. Mine failed 2 years ago & I got the fix from bbs archive. Similar symptoms to you but in middle of France without RAVE or laptop.
