MG MGF Technical - gas leak?
Is there any way of diagnosing a leak in the suspension without the gauge? Mine was pulling left under heavy braking and the garage said it was the pressure in the suspension low on that side and it was Ok for a week now it's doing the same again. I could do with finding out if it's leaky as it was in an accident recently and I'm wondering if this caused a slight leak, is this possible? Thanks John |

More lightly to be corrosion. And you could wait a bit and use a ruler to measure! |

Will What do I measure? |

the hight from the top of the wheel rim to the paintwork (not the rubber floppy cover thing), compare both sides on a flat surface after letting the car rest. Check again in same conditions after a few days and see if it has changed- if you can tell diffrences in handling then the diffrence between the two sides/two days may well be marked, if the hight is out but doesn't change then it is posible that the garage has not done it properly. I haven't done this myself, but look at Rob's site for instructions for checking the ride hight. Will |

Are we talking Gas leak or Fluid leak? If the gas is leaking then it will almost certainly require a new 'sphere'. If the fluid is leaking then it could be any part of the system - including the front to rear balance pipes - but if the fluid is leaking then there is a good chance you will see bright greenish/yellow fluid (it is only a water/anti freeze mix) drips somewhere BUT do not confuse them with engine coolant that can look the same - especially on the early models. Just a thought. If the Suspension fluid is water/coolant mix is it necessary to replace the fluid every few years to retain corrosion resistant properties of the liquid....? Tim |

Ted I didn't know there was a fluid as well, aint life complicated! I'll bung it in the garage tonight and have a look in the morning, with the weather up here there's no chance of spotting a fluid leak at the moment, will it be just a few drops or something really noticeable? |
John |
Will Have you got the adedress of Rob's site? |
john again |
John Probably just a few drops - the problem seems to be that the fluid is forced out when driving and so does not show except as stains around the leaking area. Ted |

Will Measured the height last night and found the left was 6mm lower, is this bad? |
John |
Yep, could be hydragas leaking out(bad) or a broken sphere leaking [nitrogen?] gas (worse). |
