MG MGF Technical - Gear Selector Cable

Hi, I have a 97 MGF VVC, unfortunately for me the gear selector cable, part number ULS 100070, has snapped....Rover have quoted me 300 pound + Vat at the Ipswich dealership. I have bought the cable myself and intend to fit it myslef as I refuse to pay those prices and basically cant afford it anyway....Does anyone know of any online step by step instructions (in lamens terms) that can help me???

Cheers, Andy
Andy

Andy,
Does this help, by the way where did you buy the cable ? http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/

Cheers Adrian, thats great, when I wrote this thread yesterday, MG in Macclesfield said they could go me a cable in a couple of days, but after I'd wrote it, they rang back and said their on 'back order' so it looks like i'm not getting one for a while........

Do you know of anywhere I can get one within the next 2 weeks??

Cheers, Andy
Andy

I'm sure Dave Morris will respond directly, but I seem to think that after 7 weeks of waiting, he resorted to getting a second hand one put in last week, to get him mobile again.

Andy,
That's exactly why I was asking where you got one from so quickly, a number of us were searching for Dave.

There is definitely a supply problem with the shorter one of the two.

I can only suggest you try local breakers, you may have to take second hand on this, for the time being anyway.

If not successful try, in no particular order :

Brown and Gammons, MG Mania, Mike Satur.

I know they are trying to source this cable, maybe they have some or can help.

Dave, I spoke to Glenn this morning, he says that the cables he sold you were from a TF and that you needed an extra bracket to fit the TF cable as it was too short....... do you know which bracket this was and how much it was??

Cheers, Andy
Andy

Ah yep forgot to mention i have the TF gear shift in mine, and there was a little bracket/linkage to make these cables fit to my gaer shift, i guess you still have original F shift, hav you tried the other number on link i gave you, Dave

Dave, I have rang every Rover parts supplier in the country! can't get hold of one anywhere..... been told by MG in Macclesfield that they will have one in on the 3rd November, which is no good as I need one in and fitted before 27th October...

Aret these additianal brackets a rover part? and are they expensive? easy to fit??

Cheers, Andy

Andy,
I think the advice you seek could very easily be given by Brown and Gammons or Mike Satur, although a distance from you, they will always help.
