MG MGF Technical - Goodyear NCT tyres

Just coming up to MOT and need two new front tyres.
Existing rears are nearly new Goodyear 205/50 R15 NCT5s.
Tried to get 185/55 NCT5s for the front ... tried two local tyre suppliers but told they are not available anymore.
Checked with local MG dealer who confirmed the same ... they also said that they would only recommend Continentals as a direct replacement ....
Would like to keep Goodyears all round if possible.
Any comments would be appreciated (2000MGF).

NCT5s aren't an especially great tyre, but it is good news that you've not had a problem with them.

Regarding replacing your existing NCTs, you are in a difficult situation. When replacing tyres on any mid-engine vehicle, the best advice is to replace all four tyres together.

You've got 15" wheels, so some of the options to look at are Toyo (T-1 Proxes - either the S or the R), Goodyear F1 GS-D3 or the Continentals used on the TF.

I'd probably go for either Toyo or the Bridgestone RE720.

Results of an earlier tyre survey can be found here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/tyres/index.htm

Hi,

If you're happy with the NCT5's then I would have a look at Goodyear Venturas http://www.goodyear.co.uk/services/tyreguide/feat_eagle_ventura.html

They're an excellent road tyre, superb in the wet and dry and fairly long lasting. Look good, and not quite so expensive as the F1's.

Regards, Kes.

Seconded, I had venturas on the rear of my 1.8i and was very happy with them, also put them on my 306XSi as they were so good in the wet so if you don't need the full performance of F1s and the like give them a try.

Hi guys,

can anyone tell me the difference between Toyo T1-R's and T1-S's?

Any advice on the best ones to get?

Cheers!

<can anyone tell me the difference between Toyo T1-R's and T1-S's?>

The R has a reinforced side wall - just had them fitted, so far so good but I find the ride slightly harder than the SO2s but grip seems OK but not tried them out in anger yet.

Thanks for the advice ...
Took the Goodyear website route ... Thanks Kes.
Sourced 2x NTC5 locally (Bathwick Tyres)... £55 ea inc balancing, fitting and Vat etc.
Cheers ...
