MG MGF Technical - Handbrake light keeps flickering on

I've just taken over my son's MGF and its got a couple of niggles which he has not been able to fix. The most annoying is the handbrake light, which won't stay off when the handbrake is released. The handbrake itself wiggles about quite a bit when it is off. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be gratefully received.
Also the soft top has a couple of very small holes caused by wear and tear - has anyone any advice on how to repair this?

AR Phillips

If you're lucky then the handbrake light flickering on can be cured by removing the cubbybox interior just by the cig lighter and slightly tightening the nut you will find nestling down there with the handbrake cables. If you're unlucky then the rear calipers are sticking on and may need replacing, possibly with the rear brake pads/discs too if the problem has been occuring for some time.

As you may be able to tell, I speak fron experience of the latter !!
Nick

Either a loose switch, or low brake fluid due to worn brake pads.

Many thanks for the advice - I got into the problem area by tremoving the ashtray interior as advised. I couldn't locate the nut you mentioned but I have wedged a lump of sponge under the back of the handbrake which has stopped it moving about and that seems to have cured the problem - fortunately nothing more serous.

An ingenious fix.
We would put a piece of black insulating tape over the LOP light.
The most common problem is seizure of the rear cylinder hand brake release which will show up at the next MOT.

Alistair, it's not the ashtray that you remove but the plastic insert for the centre cubby / armrest. This will allow you into the hadbrake adjustment screw.
