MG MGF Technical - Heated wing mirrors
Found out (to my delight) that my 1996 'F' VVC has heated wing mirrors...... I have only owned the car 1 year, were these ever standard or are they an 'add on?' Also, whilst fitting a CD player, I found the door mounted tweeters are not connected up...as it has the original 2 way speakers should these be replaced when the tweeters are connected, and where can I get a suitable crossover (spec? for a non HiFi tech) Charlie (Kent UK!!!) |

Heated mirrors are standard. |

And "ON" all the time you are driving |

Re the door tweeters: If they are the factory fit ones, they have a capacitor fitted on the back of the tweeter already, so just connect them in parallel with the existing speakers. If they are something that someone else has fitted and you need a crossover, just buy a couple of 2.2uF reversable capacitors (one for each tweeter) from your local Maplins and connect the tweeter via the capacitor. There's no need to buy an expensive crossover unit, the capacitors will work just fine only allowing the high frequencies through to the tweeter (so you won't blow it up). There's not much point going to the expense of changing the existing speakers, as the tweeters in them are quite directional and only play into the footwells (hence Rover fitted the external tweeters higher up). So I would just leave them. If you email me, I'll send you a diagram of what to do. regards Keith |

Charles, Check the impedance (electrical resistance) of the speakers. If they are both more that 8 ohms you can connect them in parallel without getting close to to the lower limit for the head unit. If not, then connect them in series. Assuming both are 4 ohms; +ve ------------------------------ >D >D -ve ------------------------------ PARALLEL = 2 ohms +ve ----------->D----->D---------- -ve ------------------------------ SERIES = 8 ohms |

Sorry, Tried to be clever with the diagram - didn't work - DOH! |

YOu have also tried to be cleaver with what you said, unfortunatly speaker impedance is not so easy, and the tweeter will be of very great impedance at the low end of the spectrum and should not cause a problem. |

In fact if you put them in series then you would only get high frequencys out of anything! |

Will's quite right, there is no problem connecting the tweeter (with capacitor) in parallel with the existing speaker. |
