MG MGF Technical - Help on using this forum

Hi

I want to add a message to a thread I started a few weeks ago which is just off the bottom of the page but can't get there!

I can see up to May 20th messages, but don't get a "Next Page" type button. Does anyone else see one or is it my browser?

Cheers
Julian

There isn't one. Once threads get old they fall off the bottom of the list and go into the archive. Best bet is to find your old thread in the archive, start a new thread and copy the link in.

HTH,
Tim.

Hence the use of the word 'Bump' that you'll see on some threads (have a look at the B&G thread in the general section). This word has come to be used as a way to keep a thread active and stop it being archived.

oh well, that's a little naff. i mean, if you have a busy day on here, threads will get "archived" early. Only 6 days worth visible now.

Cuoldn't find the previous thread as I couldn't remember what heading i used.

never mind.
Julian

Might you be able to remember some of the words you used in the previous thread? Or the name you used when you posted in that thread? If so, use those words, or name, to search the archive. I often use my name to find an old thread that I half remember contributing to.

The bbs could be extended to keep open threads for longer but at a price - we all like the speed of loading a text based, no avatars or piccies, bbs with short current retention. That is the advantage of this bbs.

I searched archive for "stamford" and only got 1 hit from 2000.

The basic Forum software is very poor m8. That's why folk have moved on to other FORUMS.
Gareth

I agree with Gareth about the software but to me that is not important. What is important, to me, is the content of the bbs and the people that visit it on a regular basis.

This bbs, other than the odd non-member trolling around, is generally visited by people with an interest in their cars and their upkeep.

One of the graphical forums that I visit daily seems to have F/TF updates every couple of days - either their regulars don't like talking about their cars or it is just so slow that they can't be bothered.

Another regular graphical forum is populated by people who's signatures and graphics tend to exceed their contributions by about 6 - 1 on space/time taken when opening. Also a very high %age of barryboys who seem more interested in blinging up their cars than actually getting out and driving them.

I visit the 5 main MGF/TF boards most days, read-only on a couple, some comments on a couple and ensure that this is the first and last each day.

My views only.

JohnP

I have found this BBS one of the easiest to use specially due to the fact I am on dial up. Okay it has no next page and everything goes into archive I have never found this an issue with over 6 years of using this board.

I use a karting BBS and that is crap as to read a comment under each thread you have to open them up individually.

the thing that pisses me off about other fora (?) is the graphics, take http://www.forum.barryboys.co.uk for instance, maybe I don't want an animated gif of a womans crotch whilst she's being pleasured on my screen at work in order to read the comments written on the page!
Will Munns

I agree, while the barry boys site is fantastically funny, there are some questionable bits for work viewing.

I like this BBS the way it is. It loads quickly and is not full of massive graphics in sigs. It remains my fave forum for all things MG (with the possible exception of the FPOWER forum of course ;) )
Phil Brindley - Leicester

Yes, I too like the speed of this site. Few graphics makes a big difference on a 56K dial up line. With a BIG pipe the other fora are no problems.

And the people around here tend to use their real names, and not odd ball handles, and they like to speak 'proper' English, not the short hand stuff that you see elsewhere. :-) (I can also put up with typed smilies, rather than icons).
