MG MGF Technical - HELP SEATS................

HELP..............

Just removed seats from my 96F, to fit new ones from 2000 model(i think).
Plug for wiring on seat belt pre tensioner, is different on old loom , from new seats.

Original loom 2 wires ,ORANGE+ORANGE and BLUE
New seats.... PURPLE+BLACK and WHITE.

CAn i just snip wires and join together with block, or do they need to be connected to right wires?.

Also am i allright to re-connect battery without these wires connected?

Thanks
Mark.

I'm not electrical but if you email me at jponting at globalnet dot co dot uk I shall reply with a pre-2001 and post-2001 electrical diag for the SRS system (in a word doc???)

Let me know the outcome of this, I too will be fitting new seats soon and would also like to fit the new pre tensioners rather than putting the old ones back on.

Chris.

Wont know for a few weeks (mate on hols).
Try me agin then!.
Seats were easy to fit and tensioners look identical, other than wiring plug from seat to loom is different?.
Will try to get hold of wiring diagrams for both and try again?
Sure we cant be the first to encounter this!.

What is the age of the replacement seats chaps? I confess that when I fitted my TF seats (probably early ones), there was no drama just connecting up the plugs. No SRS light. No plans to test them in anger however! ;o)
Rob Bell

Rob, my seats are brand new leather and alcantara and the connector, like Marks, is different to the existing 98 version.

I guess refitting the old ones is the safest option until someone can confirm which wires to splice if this is at all possible.
Chris Catchpole

Chris, didn't you have a RAVE? Wiring diags are in there.

Mark,

I missed this thread as I was on hols...

I also came across this problem when putting my 04 TF seats in to my 99 F. I also did what you did and put the old tensioners on the new seats... still got the new tensioners lying around...
