MG MGF Technical - Hey Diddle Diddle....
My car had a piddle, all over the garage floor! Nuts!...I appear to have a hole in my radiator after I found coolant all ove the floor yesterday morning. Question is: Is the radiator for a 98 VVC with Air Con a different size/part no. from the standard one, as my local PartCo only has 1 type of radiator listed for the MGF? The local MGR dealer has quoted me £145+vat...Gulp! Thanks chaps, Nick Also, does anyone know if the MGF with Air Con has a pollen filter anywhere, because I can't find it!

Can't help with the radiator, except that if its just a small hole, can you fix it using a platic type epoxy? It all depends where the hole is. I cannot find any refernace to pollen filter in the owners manual or the workshop manual. If there was one it is concidered a service itam and would be mentioned somewhere. I would guessimate that there is no pollen filter. Also, why would they install a pollen filter in an open air car?? cheers. Branko.

A pollen filter on an open top car? I think not!

Nick... if you can get in 4 minutes there's this one on eBay... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10414&item=4531144473&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW or this one if you were too slow :-) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10414&item=4531671487&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Cheers Chris

Nick, there is only one radiator for all models of MGF. An alternative many are looking at/ have done is to fit the alloy TF rad, which could last rather longer than the original. It fits straight in.

Thanks for the help, I got a new radiator and the garage fitted it but I have another query... In front of the radiator is what looks like a second smaller radiator, does anyone know what it is for? Thanks Nick

Air conditioning radiator? ===> Its called the condensor. Here is a link if you want to learn somemore about car air con systems. http://www.familycar.com/Classroom/ac1.htm And for other stuff, http://www.familycar.com/Classroom/ cheers.

I have a 1999 VVC with A/c and the radiator is the same. The a/c equipped car has TWO front cooling fans, and there is no pollen filter fitted to this car. HTH Tony

Thank you guys I nearly lost my rad that I'd bidding on then.....ha ha but if anyone else is thinking of changing your rad, two points to think on, there are 3 bleed points, engine bay, rad, and heater(behind the plastic cover around your brake fluid) and the other point I have notice that there are double capacity rads available now thanks Jon

Hmmmmm Dont get this!!. One of the reasons given for HGF is cold/cooler water returning to a very hot engine, thus causing sudden temp rise/fall, thus causing head/block to expand/contract to quickly. Would not a larger radiator just make this worse ???.
Mark.L
In theory yes. However the problem lies with the thermostat location and not with the radiator. So it can be resolved (and has been apparently on the TF 160). SF
