MG MGF Technical - Hood Cover Thingy.......

As the sun is splitting the trees today I thought I would get the hood down for most of the day. Lowered the hood and thought I would try and fit the leather cover thingy that goes over the hood when lowered. Ive never fitted it before and have done some research with regards to "".....pull this bit first , clip that thingy next......stretch that bit over there "" etc etc.....after an hour ive given up and probably given the neighbours an hours amusement.
Its a Mk 1 hood and more then likely a Mk 1 cover. Does anyone else have this problem ? Am i missing something simple ?.....or should I just put it in the rubbish bin as at this point in time its the best place for it in my opinion :-((

Everyone tells me there is no problem with the Mk1 cover but I think they are cr$p. I can put it on quickly and easily and I know I can stop about 40 miles later and put it back on again and again and ....

The only way I can fit it is t-bar and door shuts first then stand at back of car and pull the rear edge over the hood and hook into the groove. If I put the wire in first and then try to stretch into the door shuts I consider the rubbish bin.

A Mk2 will be obtained (with the later t-bar studs) before the sun is much higher. Having used an MS Shower Cap thingie I am convinced that the boot channel is easier than the wire channel.

Lots of suppliers, several on BBS recently, I shall probably go to Newton Commercial as they were very helpfull on the phone recently.

Put the cover in the boot, drop the top, get the revs up a bit, turn up CD volume and enjoy the fantastic Scottish roads.

Wish I were up there now but have to wait until August when we are attending a biking weekend at Loch Rannock. NOTE TO ME: don't forget new super sticky tyres at end of July!!!

John..... I assume for your biking weekend you will be travelling up by bike ???.... Why dont you give us a shout mearer the time and maybe you can meet up me and my motley crue ( namely the CSMGF ) for cold pint of beer or maybe a "wee half " as we call it :-)
D Jamieson

Will be on bike (got moaned at last year when we went on a bike w/e in the F - we had last laugh as it rained and rained ..).

Certainly hope to meet up with CSMGF if possible.

We have friends who live just over the brow from the Edradour distillery which I guess is close to Moulin? If any of you guys are into the IAM then you may know Steve Shepley from Donavourd?
JohnP

Guys no need to bin the Mk1 cover sew on an additional section so it fits in the boot lid a la Mk2.Any trimmer will do this for about 20-30GBP or a couple of bottles of Edradour's finest;-)
Mike.

Mike yu may have just lost a sale or 2 but thanks for the thought.

There is a good coach trimmer, who re-zipped my window, about 15 miles away. I'll give him a visit next week else I'll be forced to phone you :-(
JohnP

John if you get yours done could you email me some pics and a price ? If it goes well I may send mine down for alteration .
D Jamieson

Certainly will - hope mike doesn't mind me using his SunMate as a template.
