MG MGF Technical - How do I remove the radio

How do I remove the radio from my MGF???
mac

Which radio do you have?

Do you have the radio/cassette unit?

or

Do you have the radio/single slot CD unit?

------------

Removal of the radio/cassette requires a pair of head unit removal tools, these are 'C' shaped wires that you slot into the pair of holes each side of the unit - you can make some out of a wire coat hanger, rather than buying them. :-)

Insert the tools, one each side and then lever them outwards (this will depress the retaining catches into the sides of the head unit), with the tools levered outwards you should now be able to withdraw the head unit.

------------

Removal of the radio/single slot CD requires an alan key. On each side of the unit is a small flap, prise them open (carefully) to reveal an alan key headed bolt, one each side. Undo the bolts and this will release the head unit. Withdraw the head unit.

-----------

When refitting them, it is very ewasy to get the wiring loom trapped behind the unit, thus making it difficult to fit. Tip for this is to pop out the top air vent (it just pulls upwards and outwards), you can then reach behind the head unit and feed the loom out fo the way as you slide the unit into place.

Hope this helps.

The other option is the kenwood head units which where std and I think still are as these need a specially tool which come we the head unit if purchased separately.

As SF said the original head units are simple to remove however you might find a grub screw in the holes which need removing first.

In the UK head unit removal tools are available (or used to be) from car stereo shops all good car accessary shops.

Tom,

I didn't include the Kenwood system as it is an MGR specific (as opposed to Rover) system and therefore was only available in the TF (Mac asked about an F head unit). I may be wrong on this though, anyone know if there are any late MY2K Fs out there with a factory fitted Kenwood head unit?

Thanks for help. As my MGF is imported from Japan the FM band is to low for New Zealand so I need to fit a expander the arial. It looks like I can do this through the top air vent
