MG MGF Technical - humming noise while driving

while in motion and not pressing the accelerator my car makes an annoying droning noise that you can feel on the accelerator pedal and hear in the car, my car has passed only 40000 miles and i dont suspect its the wheel bearings.can u help?
chriss

In my experience it's usually the wife in the passenger seat.
Pehe H

Is the noise speed related, or constant? If you dip the clutch, does that change anything?
Mike Hankin

i had the same problem on my 98vvc and also firs suspected wheel bearings and changed both front only to find noise was still there eventually foun front tyres both wearing on the inside edge had tyres changed noise went away for about 6months then came back tyres worn out again had more fitted and found out that ride height was too low and wearing tyres to quick. Measure both front trim heights, hub centre to
top centre of the front wheel arch:
Front trim height = 368 ±10 mm. hope this helps and saves the expense that it cost me to find.

CAUTION: Do not check or adjust
suspension trim height immediately after a
road test. Allow vehicle to stand for at
least two hours to allow suspension fluid
temperature to equalise with air temperature.

Pehe H,

I normally find that to a more of an annoying whine, although the fitting od a windstop reduced this significantly.
