MG MGF Technical - idle speed rpm

After a recent service the idle speed reads 850rpm which is a little too slow,[engine hunting slightly]I would be grateful if anyone would tell me where the adjustment screw is , [1.8i ]so I can notch it up a fraction,Thanks.

Not supposed to touch the idle screw.

Set at the factory and threadlocked inplace but it's on the throttle body if you must know.

Probably the IACV needs looking at.

Sounds normal, the ECU dictates the idle speed by open or closing the IACV (which is a throttle bypass valve), if you adjust the throttle screw then it will compensate by changing the IACV and you'll be back where you started, but if the ECU gets reset it may not be compensating correctly and you'll end up stalling.

You can reset the idle control valve electronically by (checking the FAQ for exact details and) ignition on, depress accelerator 8 times, switch off and then start car.

The idle will be rough to start with but will very quickly adapt.

The idle control is adaptive and has no manual adjustment.

A small degree of hunting is exactly right. It's automatically changing the idle for you all the time.

5 times, but 8 should work ;-)

Consider yourself lucky you dont have a VHPD engine!

Idle speed about 1300rpm and lumpier than school custard!
