MG MGF Technical - Im selling the MGF

Come to a hard decision to sell the MG, as is costing me too much time and money, and no enjoyment value.....

Anybody got a decent idea of trade in value? Have you traded in anything similar recently?

Its a Tahiti Blue MGF 1.8i, reg'd 27.12.97 on an R.

41500 miles, full black leather, clear indicators, £300 worth of new rubber, Cd player, clear indicator conversions, plus a new battery a couple of months back. It also had a new rear window approx 14 months ago and comes with a colour coded hardtop.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ian

Been down the Parkers route, but dont give price for any extras or lower milage, only 70K, am really after someone on here who might have had price recently.....

But thanks Rob.

It's obviously worth what someone will pay. A friend of mine bought a 97/R Tahiti blue VVC with full black leather but no other options (no passenger airbag, windstop, hardtop, CD etc) and 28K miles a few months ago for £7200. Hard top is normally worth around £500 (you may be better off selling separately). All depends on history, condition etc. Equally, I bought my VVC just over a year ago and at the time it was the same age as your car, with similar mileage and lots of extras and I paid £6500. You're best off looking at Autotrader and seeing what else is out there.

Good luck,
Tim.

Thanks Tim, was thinking £5500 trade in HOPEFULLY, I really want more..... (I got loan to think about)
I paid, dare I say, £9200 in Feb 03, but only had 27k on the clock and was mint....

It has windstop too, no relevance I know......

I'll be sad to say goodbye to it but i'm thinking from it's point of view, it needs to sit in a garage nice and dry, and only come out at weekends, not get the 52 mile round trip drive it has now!!!

I don't understand that - it's a car, it's meant to be driven, not sit in a garage.

>>as is costing me too much time and money, and no enjoyment value.....<<
now, that I do understand, and the only way forward is to sell it.

Good Luck, and please tell us what you get for it.
I might like to sell my '97 VVC (was planning this for next year tho')

> I paid, dare I say, £9200 in Feb 03, but only had 27k on the clock and was mint....

Ouch! I paid £7000 for mine in March 03.

97R Flame Red 1.8MPi. Totally mint condition. 22,000 miles!
Bob Millar

That seemed to be a fair price Bob considering what else was about in my area at the time.....

Saw a really rough P reg with half leather for £8200 in dealers the same day....

Was a fair amount of peer pressure, and the offer of a topup loan from my Dad which swung it on the day, the car was marked up at £9995!!!

Semms one hell of a lot looking back now, but we learn these things the hard way....
Ian Hamshaw

Don't we just £10 000 for a V (99) Silver 1.8MP1 this year. 54000 on the clock but I luv it.
John Dickson

the parkers book gives an adjustment table for mileage and you can add £535 for a 40K F rather than 70K....best not to worry about keeping the miles down on our pride and joys me thinks! That makes it around £5800 plus your extras for a private sale or trade-in is £4525+£535 so £5.5K would be about right with your leather etc....good luck with your sale

If it were me selling I would test the water first, stick it on for 7.5 O.N.O (with the h,top) and see if you get any takers. you can always come down if you need to.
Carl L

It's really got to be traded in Carl, as I need to change cars quick, and can't be bothered with private sales....

Am going to local Vauxhall dealers on Sat morn, so will let u all know what they offer me, I'm not going to tell you what i'm thinking of buying but i'm sure some of u will have a guess anyway, and NO it's not a VX220.

Thanks for your info Tony.......
Ian Hamshaw

Ian NOT a Corsa...Wikid Man! Eh EH!

Neil

Ian,

Oh, go on - get a VX220 and make sure its a turbo... as my MGF is in "HGF Repair" mode at the moment... I get to occasionally get a lift home in his VX turbo... and bugger me does it shift... road holding... I think he's put glue on the wheels! very scary stuff...

Ian, its probably worth taking the hard top off and selling it separately. The dealer probably won't add much to price they offer you for the car with it included. Selling it separately you may get £500.

<Ian NOT a Corsa...Wikid Man! Eh EH!>
Er, no, sadly NOT a Corsa Neil!!!!

Ralph I may well do that, it's just sorting out shipping for a hardtop unless who ever buys comes to collect, if it went on Ebay it would be local pick up only.....

Chris i wish I could afford the insurance for a VX220T. Just been quoted £2k to insure an Elise, and i'm not going to pay that out of principal.

You can all laugh but I do like the Astra Coupes.....
Ian Hamshaw

They seem to do well enough in the BTCC Ian, good luck with your next motor. :-)
