MG MGF Technical - imf on paint colour reqd
does anyone know if mgfs exported to japan were given different coloured body paint colours to their stay at home counterparts??? in the process of locating colour coded hardtop for a vehicle thats currently in transit back to uk but is described as 'metallic navy'- from pictures ive seen its definitly not tahiti blue-much darker in fact and im assured that it has its original paintwork and there has been no respray. its a 1998 1.8i model. would appreciate any suggestions as to possible colour and/or reason i havnt been able to find any other mgfs of this colour through the usual channels.

No, they where the same colour codes. Hardtops haven't been colour coded *by factory* until 2001 (IMO). They all where black and got resprayed after sales inofficial.

Unless it's a heritage top. They were all colour-coded.

As Dieter says, Japanese exports use exactly the same colours as the UK cars - almost certainly Tahti blue (exact shade may vary according to lighting). You can confirm this by checking the colour code - embosed on the commission plate found next to the tyre under the front bonnet. One thing to be vary of though is a respray whilst in Japan - and the exact colour then could be a nightmare to match. But I think that this is unlikely. Hope this helps

thanks all....guess ill just have to wait until i can have a look at the colour code on its plate. even allowing for colour distortion in photos and lighting i cant belive its tahiti blue or any other recognised mgf colour, wasnt able to add a link to this comment as would really appreciate 2nd, 3rd and even 4th opinions.....maybe waiting for the car since june has got me a little neurotic!! if anyone is willing to look i can email photos.

Might be anthracite - that has a bluey tinge in certain light. Paul P9 VLS
