MG MGF Technical - info req 1.8vvc spec

I need some info regarding the spec on a "T" reg MGF 1.8vvc car that i am looking at buying. Should it have abs as standard ? if so where sould it be, as i cannot see it in the front by the spare wheel ( which is where I've been told it should be). I belive it to be a 1999 "T". Any info & advice please.

Yes it should, the ABS is the thing with lots of pipes that sits on the plinth opposite the battery - if the plinth is empty then the car aint a VVC or there is somthing very skew

As Will describes - pictured here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/facts_and_figures/mpi_v_vvc_images/abs.gif

How to differentiate a VVC from a 1.8i is detailed here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/facts_and_figures/spotting_the_difference.htm

Hope this helps Dave :o)

Thanks for the info, the website http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group1/info/mgf_history.htm#A_2_F states that the VVC when introduced had ABS as standard, but then goes on to say that ABS became standard on VVC 2000MY, which left me totally confused ! but the other link to spotting the difference helps as it has pointers & a fool proof way of checking via the vin number if it's a VVC or not. bt still not clear if abs was standard from the start.

ABS was standard on the VVC from the start, added as standard to the MPi in 2000
Will Munns

"added as standard to the MPi in 2000" is that right?

My 2001 MPi didn't have it when we bought from new and SWMBO couldn't see the point of the extra cash when she could have a nicer colour and better CD player for the same money. She won that round but I won when it came to the TF as she had a couple of frights in the wet on good old NCT3s!
Tony

I thought that by then it was... I guess not then!
Will Munns

It was still an option on TF135s in June 2003 but I think standard from start of 2004 on all models - should of been standard on all F's I think bearing in mind the weight distribution!
Tony

A big thank you to all who posted replies to my question. Turned out that the car was a 1999 model but an import which didn't have ABS as standard. As the insurance companies wanted to load the premium by 25% due to the lack of abs I didn't buy it. thanks again,

Dave.

Dave, thanks for spotting the confusing wording in that piece - I've now corrected it!

Also I think that ALL MGF VVCs came fitted with ABS, so if the car you were looking at didn't, I suspect that it wasn't in fact a VVC... so yes, better look else where! :o)

Happy hunting!
