MG MGF Technical - It is difficult to shift gears

Hello,
Not very suitable why I block and retreat to the 2nd from the 3rd to the 4th shelf.
Are there those reasons to cause this phenomenon?
I have already changed the gear wheel oil,Group has renewed the clutch too.
And only 3rd retreats to 2nd, it will just be difficult that 3rd is entered to 4th.
Please Help me.
Thank you

The good news is it is unlikely to be a faulty gearbx because it is surprisingly robust.

I found a cause of jammed gearlever to be broken bearings on the gearlever shaft and the easiest way to check this is to try lifting the gearlever; normally there should be no vertical movement. These bearings are not available as spares, so the whole gearlever assembly has to be replaced.

You don't say how old your car is, but it also be the gear cables are slack or the end jonits are worn. You can check this out by raising the rear of the car first then check for wear in all joints between cables and gearbox shaft. If they are ok, you should check the joints at the gearlever end, but to do this you need to remove the centre console.

is the gear selection only blocking when the engine is running?. if the engine is switched off is it easy to change gear or still difficult
J LEWIS

My car is 10 old. Not knowing and having difficulty in while entering 3rd to block, but it will just have difficulty in to retreat and block. But sometimes 3 is blocked while retreating out normal. my Gearlever about with there is rocking the interval of 0.5-1 CM up and down when block emptily. Joints between cables and gearbox shaft will have interval rocked(rocking the interval of 0.5-1 CM ). Then should I begin to maintain from that part?
The engine is switched off sometimes difficult.

thank You
George

Free sideways movement of 0.5-1cm while in neutral at the gear lever is ok, but there should be no vertical movement.

The simplest place to start is to check the gear cable ends. They have a rubber insert which are likely to be very worn after ten years.

My bet wouls still be on trouble at the gear lever end, but this means taking out the centre console so you can see how the lever moves and whether the parts are jamming.

If this has only started since the clutch was changed you should take it back and let the mechanics sort it out.

I suspect you will find an solution to your problem on one of these two pages:

Hi,

yes, this little bracket helps to get the assy tight.
And the cable ends with rubber bearing are almost responsible for problems with changing gears.

btw. I think you are located in Taiwan ?
Are you aware of this site and the MGF group in TW ?
