MG MGF Technical - K series Info

Hi,

I am looking into a K series conversion for my MGB. What I need to know is can I run twin weber 45's while using the standard ECU?

The only reason I ask is because I have the weber 45's and TB's cost bucks.

Thanks
Joe

If you get Dave Walkers Haynes manual of tuning he talks of making TB's out of old CU Carbs, it doesn't sound too difficult. www.emeraldm3d.com. The other thing to consider is that MTB's are unlikely to give much benefit on an MPi head without any flow work, the plenum is pretty much able to deliver as much air as is required. However a VVC head (with solid cams) may find MTB's useful to about 175bhp before any flowing work.

Tim,

I am probably going to use TB's now as I have managed to find a cheaper kit. However, I have been told that I can't use the Emerald ECU on a VVC engine without getting a piper blanking kit. Is this kit all I need or do I need to change cams too?

Thanks
Joe

Joe - we've just been chatting on XPF on the same subject! ROFL

Out of curiousity, are you using TimF's own MTB kit? He mentioned this to me in a 'hush hush' way at last year's Silverstone event.

Looking forward to seeing an MGB with a nicely tuned K in it! :o)

Forgot to mention before: ask TimF about ECUs and retaining the VVC mechanism...

Rob,

Tim mentioned a direct to head kit that uses the standard fuel rail. It seems like good value for money, so I will probably use that kit.

I am looking forward to getting it done. Tim has most things sorted, so it should be straight forward.

It won't be finished this year, but it will be ready for all of next years MGoT events!

Thanks

That sounds like Bernard Scouse's airbox kit that comes with all the fittings to allow the use of the standard fuel rail: a very neat bit of kit. Kingsley has this on his F.

Are you getting Tim's rear suspension kit? Just don't mention roll-centres to him - you'll be there for hours!!! ROFL (but very interesting conversion though)

Look forward to seeing the completed 'beast' on track next year then! :o)

I wonder if a kit is availble to K up an Old Triumph spitfire!!
Neil

I've given that some thought already Neil ;o) LOL
