Hi Darren,

Do you get the noise just when the car starts moving, or does it happen over bumps or when you're turning?
Mike Hankin

evening mike

yep its when hits a dip and turning one knock.... on the drivers side when moving freely it does not happen
all the time......

its weird

Did you check the lower shock mounting? The rubber bushes can give up and allow the shock to slop around, although that doesn't necessarily result in any noise when turning. The fact that you got the noise on pulling away would have me looking at the wishbone mounts too.

If you get chance, take the car to an empty car park and see if you can discover what does and doesn't result in the noise, there could be some useful clues to be had.

just went out for a drive nothing no knocks. did notice when i took the n/s wheel to tighten the top caliper bolt... the shock was showing the metal bit at the bottom the the rubbers look good...

darren chat soon mike will you be at silverstone then
darren jeffery

Hey guys, I've a TF 160 with the same probs..puzzled me rotten. Any joy with it please share!!
Timmeh

Darren, I'm aiming to be at Silverstone but since I've blown my budget for the next few centuries so it'll probably be against my better judgement ;o)

If you fancy a spin around the M25 on Tuesday, you'll find a concentration of Fing knowledge in the Pits at Brands Hatch, it's an evening for newcomers to MGs On Track events so the regulars have been reduced to just hanging around, oozing technical know-how 8-)

the knock was there again this morning going a over rampso it Dips and Ramps then????? could you share any light on the subject (front n/s and o/s )
could it be the shocks going???
darren.... p.s not going to be able to get to ST Albans have a dentist appointment that day argh
darren jeffery

back to the boring subject with knocking from the fronts. it happens over ramps and noticed when driven forward nothing... but when you reverse apply brakes you get the knock sound. any light on this anyone who has had the that problem got ebc pads on at the moment on zee fronts ...
darren jeffery

AP calipers should have a characteristic knock at low speeds when moving forward or reversing, this is the pads moving slightly on and off the thrust pads, if they don't knock the calipers require cleaning. Other knocks of course could be from the suspension or steering components.
