MG MGF Technical - Latest Quaife catalogue just arrived

Guys,

The Quaife catalogue just arrived I fancy the 6 speed + torque bias Diff (Same as fitted to Focus RS) for my Nitro VVC.

The numbers are as follows:

6 Speed Synchro

1 3.125
2 2.143
3 1.640
4 1.276
5 1.030
6 0.861
F 3.995

New 6-speed Synchromesh gear kit
Helical, close ratio gears
Choice of final drive?
Includes new strengthened outer casing

G/Box - £2975
TB Diff - £495

They can fit as follows:-

To gearbox only - £200
To car - £400

Everything plus VAT

Does anyone know the ratios (ie choice of final drive) and how this would feel compared to normal VVC box. and how much it would cost for a standard VVC box to be fitted by MGR as I need one anyhow...

Ouch - 3 grand is still outside what I'd regard as being exactly affordable - but definitely better value than the 6 grand for the sequential-shift 6-speed that quaife do...

All the MGF/TF ratios are listed @ http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/facts_and_figures/transmission_ratio_data.htm

The FD ratio means that the 6th gear ratio is pretty close to the 5th gear on a MPi.

Perhaps you could get away with a taller final drive?

The price is scary... so I suppose I must somehow justify it to myself...:)

It would be interesting to see how these gear ratios would compare to engine revs up 7.1K so that I could plot a graph comparing the in gear speeds to the standard box...

Just a thought... is their a standard VVC & MPI in gear RPM graph that could be cross referenced to their gear ratios then I could apply the Quaife ratios to see the results as a longer 5/6th gear would make a difference?

Just like on the Playstation 2 professional box! :)

Yes, John Thomas prepared these, and they are on the FAQ. To save you searching, the graphs are:

MPi: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/MGF/mpirpm.jpg
VVC: http://www.mgcars.org.uk/MGF/vvcrpm.jpg

I'd be interested in seeing the graph you put together for the Quaife 'box Richie... :o)

Thanks Rob,

Very Interesting I will work this out and let you know the results... I suppose I could use the numbers between the MPI & VVC to accertain the diffrent FD's...:)

Keep you posted...

PS. I have had an indicated 150mph out of my VVC a few times(autobahn/hardtop of course) so I guess judging by the graph the speedo was slightly out...:)

this may help also..
