MG MGF Technical - Leaking heater box air intake

Hi All,
Need some help as I am at my wits end.

I need to replace the seal at back of the air intake box which sits on top of the aircon climate control unit above the passenger footwell. (Australian Car with Aircon)

How is the top air box section attached to the control unit? I need to detach it so I can access the air hole behind it. Can the air intake box in the engine area also be removed and how?

If you have successfully done this job on a car with aircon, then please reply with your instructions.

Thanks in advance,
Branko.

Hi Branko,

I hardly recall my early works, but no instructions.

However there were some three bolts for the whole unit and a big jubilee clamp and i think four of small metal clips.

This image shows the removed unit (Notice LHD, not RHD)

I think your problem will be the aircon connection pipes on the subframe side. From memory you can't get access to all clips without removing the whole thing.
Can be wrong though.

Over to someone else who may be knows better.
Dieter

Thanks for the response Dieter.

The climate control unit is held on by 4 bolts. 2 at the top and 2 at the bottom, which you only need to loosen.

I do not want to disconnect the aircon pipes which are in the bottom part of the control unit. The top part is the curved air tube as seen in your first picture. That is what I need to get off so that I can access the air vent. I have it loose but it appears to be connected at the back section.

Or,

I need to get the black box out from the engine area.
That will expose the air vent

Cheers,
Branko

Dieter,

sorry, you are right, there are only 3 bolts not four.
(I was thinking of the glove box when I replied)

I managed to move the control unit a bit and get to the 4 nuts that hold the black air box that sits in the engine bay. These nuts are behind the control unit and have been very difficult to ge to. I think copious amount of Stout Beer has helped me keep my cool while doing this.
Now I need to be able to move the black box in the engine bay, out of the way to get to the airvent hole but I'm not sure if I have to remove the brake booster to do so. Will look at it again tomorrow.

Cheers,

Sounds as though you have had too many beers if the air box is in the engine bay;-)

There are two "air boxes".
One in the engine bay just behind the brake booster and one in the passenger foot well which sits on top of the climate control unit.... or is it ideed the beers making me see double??? LOL.

Bruce Caldwell, Northants, UK, are you still on this BBS?
If so please email me.

thanks.

Branko, the engine is in the back, so technically the engine bay is in the back ;-))BTW if you are doing this because of water ingress check the A/C drain tube isn't blocked.

MJ,
Ok, Ok, I get the point. :-)
(Must've been tooooo many cold ones)

Yes, water is getting in from the bonnet area when I spray water on the windscreen.

Branko

I just managed to fix it and get it all together.
It took a little while to work it all out but now that I've done it, it was not too hard, just arkward.

Thanks for your mail Bruce, but I won't be needing those pictures after all.

Cheers,
